Public Health Professional/Public Health Educator
(Immunizations Program)
The Position
GENERAL SUMMARY:
This position requires the application of principles of behavioral science to develop and implement programs and strategies, and to direct policy and system change to improve the health of individuals and communities. The primary focus of this role will be to address vaccine education, outreach, and conduct vaccine preventable disease outbreak response. This position will promote immunization uptake and use of the statewide immunization registry through using education and evidence-based strategies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Works with community groups and directs educational efforts to influence public knowledge, attitudes, and behavior with regard to immunization promotion and status.
- Supports and implements policy, systems and environmental changes to make healthy choices practical and available to all community members.
- Organizes, facilitates and participates in community coalitions and task forces on various topics.
- Screens and evaluates materials and methods used to determine the effectiveness of programming.
- Conduct immunization outreach to include a focus on historically underserved communities using culturally and linguistically appropriate engagement strategies.
- Supports assessment, statistical evaluation, report writing, budget preparation.
- Develops and maintains effective working relationships with community based organizations, public agencies, health care organizations, schools, etc.
- Supports vaccine preventable disease response as needed.
- Supports preparation of new releases and material for media.
- Develops social media and website messaging for their program areas.
- May be required to perform and document Medicaid Administrative Match activities per the Medicaid Administrative Match Training Manual for LHJs.
- Performs other duties as requested.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of health education and public health theory, health principles/teachings and medical terminology. Ability to develop and present materials effectively to a variety of groups from a variety of social and economic backgrounds. Knowledge of communications media.
The Requirements & Selection Process
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree in nursing from a school with NLN accreditation which includes a Community/Public Health component and a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Washington.
OR
A Bachelor's Degree in Community Health, Health Promotion, Health Education, Public Health, or a closely related field.
Experience: Three years of experience in Community Health Education or MPH in lieu of experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: CHES certification preferred. Washington State RN license, if applicable. Performance of job duties requires driving on a regular basis, a valid Washington State driver's license, the use of the incumbent's personal motor vehicle when a District fleet vehicle is not available for use, and proof of appropriate auto insurance.
