The Park School seeks an Interim Makerspace Educator for the 2024-2025 academic year.  The Makerspace Educator is a member of the school’s technology department and reports to the Upper Division Head. This full-time 10-month position comes with the responsibility of working with faculty and staff to teach the Maker program in support of the school’s mission and curricular goals. 

 

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the Technology Department and The School’s technology partners
  • Attend meetings regularly with academic departments and grade level teams to understand the curricula of the school and build connections between curriculum and maker activities
  • Integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion as a core value of the School and in teaching and learning
  • Partner with faculty to use the makerspace and its resources for innovative class projects for design thinking and making
  • Develop outreach opportunities for faculty, staff, parents and other community members to introduce the creative opportunities offered by this space
  • Partner with Park’s Communication Department to share projects by students and faculty with the larger school community
  • Provide one-on-one and group sessions in the use of educational tech tools and planning for innovation for faculty professional development and faculty coaching
  • Supervision of the makerspace each day with classes from Grades 3-8, with opportunities for individual students during recess
  • Scheduling and overall management of the makerspace, including establishing best practices and safety protocols for the space
  • Attend faculty meetings, department meetings, and serve on faculty committees as needed
  • Partners with classroom teachers to actively promote hands-on, authentic activities that support student innovation and Park’s curriculum. 
  • Managing a space equipped with Epilog Laser Cutters, Makerbot 3D printers, Inventables Carvey CNC machine, vinyl cutter, Cricut machines, Drill press, Robotics (including Lego, Wonder Workshop, Cubetto, Bee-Bots, Makey Makeys, and more), basic power hand tools, and hand tools. 
 

Qualifications

 
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s degree in Education or Educational Technology preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of child development, latest education theories and practices, and current trends in education and professional development
  • Proven record of accomplishment in facilitating student-centered, exploratory learning with a design-learning or engineering design process
  • Experience with the use and maintenance of a variety of Makerspace devices and tools 
  • Knowledge of safety protocols with machinery
  • Experience with the Google Apps for Education suite
  • Experience with coding and robotics
  • Effective project management, organization, and classroom management skills
  • Demonstrated experience working in a culturally diverse community and commitment to DEI and antiracism
  • Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and both oral and written communication skills, allowing one to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students

Physical Requirements: 

  • The ability to sit and stand uninterrupted for 30 minute periods of time.
  • The ability to traverse on and across variable surfaces (e.g. level flooring, stairs, turf, gravel, asphalt, etc.).
  • The ability to lead, supervise and accompany students to all areas of the school campus (including all indoor and outdoor areas),  including during day-to-day responsibilities and in case of emergency. 
  • The ability to position oneself  (e.g.,  stand, sit, crouch, and kneel down) in order to support students. 
  • The ability to work outdoors, year-round, in variable weather conditions.
  • The ability to lift and hold 15  lbs overhead. 
  • The ability to occasionally  transport (e.g., move or drag)  25 lbs
