Job Summary:

The Adelbrook Pool Investigator (API) investigates claims of neglect and abuse in Adelbrook’s Department of Developmental Services (DDS) involved programs. This is a per-diem, as needed, position as the workload is dependent on the number of abuse or neglect allegations against the agency. This position requires a high level of critical thinking abilities, careful documentation skills, an understanding of the population served and knowledge of the DDS system of care. The API will work in both an office setting and out in the field while investigating allegations of neglect or abuse in Adelbrook Services for DDS funded individuals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintains and completes DDS pool investigator training course(s).
  • Investigates allegations of abuse and/or neglect concerning individuals aged 18 years and older in accordance with the DDS pool investigators protocol. Investigations include:
    • Checking individuals for signs of abuse or neglect including both physical injuries and mental/emotional trauma.
    • Develop investigative plans.
    • Locate and secure evidence.
    • Interview witnesses and other parties.
    • Assess credibility.
    • Process and synthesize facts and complex issues.
    • Draft detailed interview and investigative reports.
    • Draft findings in a clear, concise, and logical report in accordance with DDS formatting.
    • Communicate with Agency Leadership about investigation status, outcomes and recommendations.
    • When appropriate, participate in assisting attorneys in grievance, arbitration, and/or court preparation, including testifying in arbitrations or other court proceedings.
    • Maintain records of all investigations, outcomes and recommendations in accordance with state and federal law concerning privacy and security.
Education, Experience, and other Qualifications

Obtain/Maintain Pool Investigator Certificate from Department of Development Services (DDS). Fully conversant with the State of Connecticut’s mandated reporting law. Education and work experience with youth with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD’s) and /or Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD’s) is essential. Prior investigative experience a plus. Excellent communication and listening skills. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must possess operational private vehicle for use in the performance of daily work activities. Selected applicants are required to provide proof of vehicle registration and documentation of the appropriate insurance coverage.

Upon hire, a basic health screening (including TB and a drug screen), as well as DCF, DDS, DMV and criminal history checks conducted at the agency’s expense.
