Barr-Reeve Community Schools is currently seeking a passionate, creative, and dedicated Band Director to lead our Middle and High School band programs. Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and deliver high-quality band instruction that meets the needs of diverse learners and aligns with the school's curriculum standards.
  • Direct and manage the middle and high school band performances, including concerts, competitions, parades, and other community events.
  • Develop and maintain a positive learning environment that encourages student engagement, creativity, and discipline.
  • Collaborate with music faculty and school administration to integrate band activities within the broader educational and extracurricular programming of the schools.
  • Manage the selection of music, organization of rehearsals, and overall preparation for performances and competitions.
  • Oversee the maintenance and inventory of musical instruments and band equipment.
  • Engage with students, parents, and the community to build support for the band program and recruit new members.
  • Continuously assess student performance and provide constructive feedback to promote improvement and excellence in musicianship.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Performance, or a related field.
  • Valid Indiana teaching license in music or eligibility to obtain one before the start date.
  • While proven experience as a band director, with a track record of successful band performances and student development, is highly valued, it is not a requirement for candidates who are new to the profession. We are eager to support and develop emerging talent in music education and encourage recent graduates or individuals at the beginning of their music teaching careers to apply.
  • Strong proficiency in conducting and music pedagogy across a range of instruments.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students, fostering an environment of respect, teamwork, and passion for music.
