Associate Hospice Medical Director

The Associate Medical Director is responsible to assist the Medical Director in the administration of Lifesong Hospice and Palliative Care’s medical program and oversees the medical component of the hospice plan of care for each patient. The Associate Medical Director will be providing clinical leadership and expertise to the hospice IDT to provide the highest level of quality patient medical care and palliation. Will work to identify opportunities to improve care delivery, use resources effectively, and comply with legal, regulatory and clinical policies and procedures, and liaison with the local medical community.
Associate Medical Director Responsibilities:
- Acts as the medical resource for the interdisciplinary team.
- Reviews patient eligibility for hospice services.
- Consults with attending physicians regarding pain and symptom control.
- Assures care provided is consistent with the plan of care and standard practices through the development and review of patients' plans of care.
- Provides consultative services to hospice staff and attending physicians including timely assistance to staff in providing appropriate care.
- Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings as scheduled on a weekly basis
- Participate in the review process of the plan of care for new and existing Hospice Program patients to assure appropriateness and completion.
- Provides full and appropriate documentation of direct patient care services to support successful professional billing for these services.
- Works closely with the Director of Clinical Services, Medical Director and other directors and managers as appropriate to assure that clinical protocols, pharmaceutical utilization and case management are services implemented according to hospice strategic plan, guiding principles and policy and procedures.
Clinical:
- Assists the interdisciplinary group (IDG) in developing, reviewing, implementing an updating a plan of care every 15 days and/or more frequently if needed, that is coordinated with the attending physician.
- Renders the necessary medical management, in consultation with the attending physician, consistent with the plan of care and the patient’s needs.
- Acts as a resource to hospice staff, patients, family members, and attending physicians regarding pain and symptom control measures.
Associate Medical Director Qualifications
- License/Certification: Physician licensure by The State of Pennsylvania as a Doctor of Medicine or osteopathy required; board certification in hospice and palliative medicine preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or agency requirements and is in good working order required.
- Work experience in internal medicine, geriatrics, palliative medicine or other relevant field of medicine required.
- At least two years of experience meeting the medical and psychological needs of the terminally ill or completion of a Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship.
