Position Summary:

  • The Expressive Therapist will implement trauma-informed and therapeutic activities within the creative process of art, dance, or music making, or within recreational activities to enhance the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of the children and adults receiving acute services. The Expressive Therapist will collaborate as an active member of the treatment team.

Location:

  • Olathe, KS

Education:

  • Completed Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Music Therapy, Creative Arts Therapy, Dance Therapy, Art Therapy, or Recreation Therapy.

Experience:

  • Six months’ experience working with children and families in a behavioral health or trauma recovery setting.
  • Supervised post-graduate dance therapy or art therapy experience if applicable.

Certification/Licensure:

  • At least 21 years old
  • Valid Auto Insurance
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Credentialed as Board Certified Music Therapist in good standing with the Certification Board for Music Therapists, certified as a Dance/Movement Therapist (R-DMT) with the American Dance Therapy Association, Board Certified Dance/Movement Therapist (BC-DMT) will be preferred, Art Therapist - Registered (ATR) or Board-Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC), or certified as a Recreation Therapist through the National Council on Therapeutic Recreation (NCTRC).

Preferred Experience/Skills:

  • Requires intermediate computer skills in typing/keyboarding. Microsoft word and excel programs as well as outlook email.

Task Expectations

1. Develop and Implement Therapeutic Plans

  • Design and execute individualized treatment plans that incorporate music, dance/movement, art, or recreation therapy techniques based on client assessments.
  • Conduct assessments to determine client needs and establish appropriate therapeutic goals.

2. Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of client progress, treatment plans, and outcomes.
  • Prepare reports for interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute to treatment planning.

3. Interdisciplinary Collaboration

  • Work closely with other healthcare professionals (e.g., psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers) to integrate therapeutic interventions into broader care plans.
  • Participate in case conferences and team meetings to discuss client progress and modify treatment plans as needed.

4. Client Education and Support

  • Educate clients and their families about the benefits and techniques of music, dance/movement, art, or recreation therapy.
  • Provide resources and support to clients for continued engagement in therapeutic activities outside of sessions.

5. Program Development

  • Develop and adapt therapeutic programs to meet the evolving needs of clients and the community.
  • Evaluate and refine therapy programs based on client feedback and therapeutic outcomes.

6. Professional Development

  • Stay current with research and best practices in your field of certification (e.g., music therapy, dance/movement therapy).
  • Attend continuing education workshops and maintain licensure/certification in good standing.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Practice conduct that displays respect for all KVC colleagues and community stakeholders regardless of age, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, religion, ethnicity, or veteran status.
  • Schedules and conducts expressive therapy groups and individual sessions.
  • Participates as a part of a multidisciplinary treatment team and complete comprehensive clinical documentation of group and individual sessions as well as participate actively in treatment team discussions.
  • Requires comprehensive knowledge of youth’s history, plan of care, and discharge plan.
  • Collaborate with assigned talk therapist to improve youth's treatment outcomes and provide an expressive therapy perspective.
  • Completes required documentation, forms, and reports per agency's policy and procedures; enters documentation accurately and timely per Camber guidelines.
  • Provide timely fiscally responsible supply requests
  • Responsible for the storage and tracking of supplies and equipment
  • Promotes community integration of clients
  • Maintains required credentials for specific expressive therapy field.
  • Maintain compliance with state, federal and all licensure and accrediting bodies.
