Metal Furnace Operator

Job DescriptionJob DescriptionPeoplelink Staffing Solutions is partnered with their client located in Grandville, MI needing an eager person to get started in training for a Metal Furnace Operator role.
Temp to hire full-time:
Monday - Friday
8-10 hours shifts
$15-$17/hr starting depending on experience
Duties include:
1. Operate and maintain the meltdown furnace, flux, clean, skim, weigh and store dross as required 2. Skim and clean individual holding furnaces on aluminum diecast machines 3. Kept furnace filled to the proper level required 4. Clean and maintain launder system as required 5. Clean and maintain scrap incline conveyor and also tub transfer system as required 6. Maintain records on metal usage and other required recordable documentation 7. Practice good housekeeping including 5S 8. Keep areas free of scrap and spills 9. Obey and practice all safety procedures properly use LOTO and wear required PPE 10. Record on a weekly form and report any furnace issues to the supervisor 11. Weigh and move all scrap collected to the designated trailer recording on paperwork in the shipping 12. Clean drain/trench behind launder system as needed 13. Clean under dumper lift and conveyor system as needed 14. Any other duties that management may deem necessary

Requirements: 1. Withstand temperatures of over 100 degrees in the summertime and extreme temperatures of over 125 degrees while cleaning/fluxing the furnace 2. Handle 50lb rake with stirring raking motion for 1 -1/2 hrs during furnace cleaning 3. Remove 800lbs of skimmings from furnace for 1- 1/2 hrs during cleaning 4. Must be capable of passing the Hilo test for a permit and able to drive Hilo in a safe manner 5. Must wear spats 8-10hrs per day 6. Must wear a hard hat, face shield, spats, heat protective gloves, and coat when working directly with molten metal 7. Must wear hearing protection, safety glasses with side shields, and cotton gloves 8. Stand from 8 to 10hrs with up to 3 breaks allowed 9. Must be able to lift 30lb bars up to chest high for loading ingots into dumpers 10. Pick up skimmings weighing up to 65lbs and place in wheel borrows up to 20 times per shift 11. Use and follow proper LOTO procedures 12. Keep area clean and organized including 5S 13. Clean trenches and any area that has to deal with furnace or metal getting to the furnace 14. Tracking scrap metal, dross, skimmings & shavings in tubs and calling reclaimer for pickup and dropoff of scrap. Weighing and filling out shipper for reclaimed.
1. Metal melting and handling test with 70% minimum to pass 2. Hilo training, test, and license with a 70% minimum to pass
