ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The adjunct birth doula instructor will prepare and present lectures, lead class discussions and conduct other teaching/learning activities; create, administer, and grade various assessment methods; answer questions and provide additional support for students; calculate and submit grades for all students; collect, maintain, and submit accurate class records including grades, attendance rosters, absences, withdrawal, and/or class drop information to appropriate offices by the specified deadlines; prepare or assist in the preparation of materials used in academic administration when requested, including lesson plans, course syllabi, and instructional material; participate in class evaluations; and complete all required/mandated employee training/professional development.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Education

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Birth doula certification from a recognized organization or agency or be a Registered Nurse with maternity care experience.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Be able to provide proof of support as a birth doula for a minimum of 5 births.
  • All applicants for full-time or part-time faculty teaching positions must demonstrate written and oral proficiency in the English language.
  • Must be proficient in operating a computer and experienced in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution
  • Certified childbirth educator
  • At least one year of experience teaching in a higher education setting

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop course syllabus and distribute it to all students on the first day of class.
  2. Attend class daily and on time. Begin lessons promptly and teach for the full duration of the course. Maintain performance standards, academic rigor, and integrity within courses taught.
  3. Pursue goals, objectives, and activities that promote and support the mission of the college. Represent the college in manner, appearance, and behavior that promotes a positive image of the college. Adhere to all policies, procedures, and processes of Goodwill Technical College and Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Louisiana, Inc.
  4. Make appropriate arrangements for necessary absences according to college policy.
  5. Prepare ahead of time to provide lectures, lead discussions, perform demonstrations, and/or use technology which facilitates learning. Present course content in a professional manner and in a way that supports various learning styles to maximize student learning of the objectives being taught.
  6. Create an engaging, motivating, and healthy classroom environment that is conducive to learning and in which all students are treated equitably and with respect.
  7. Participate in the assessment of student and program learning outcomes.
  8. Participate in the end of semester evaluation session.
  9. Maintain and record accurate student attendance and progress. Prepare monthly academic progress reports when required by a student’s funding source. Submit Midterm Academic Reports, midterm grades, and final grades on time. Adhere to Instructor Exit form for end of semester requirements.
  10. Adhere to all FERPA and ADA laws, guidelines, and policies.
  11. Obey and enforce college policies that prohibit eating and drinking in the classroom and the misuse of college property.
  12. Adhere to all timelines established by the college. Check emails daily and respond within 24 hours (Monday – Friday). Respond to records inquiries and other communications about students in a timely manner.
  13. Hold thirty (30) minutes of office hours per course on campus.  
  14. Maximize the use of learning and technological resources. Incorporate the opportunity for students to develop and expand written and oral communication skills in each course.
  15. Participate in training and professional development mandated by the college.
  16. Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and supervisors and use appropriate channels of communication with all members of the Goodwill Technical College and Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Louisiana, Inc. community.
  17. Adhere to the work week requirements established in the adjunct faculty workload requirements.
  18. Meet minimum Canvas use and posting requirements.
