Part- Time Security Officer

Day Shift (7am- 3pm)

Toledo Zoo & Aquarium

Under general supervision, the primary objective shall be to protect the property and integrity of The Toledo Zoo while enhancing guest experience. Effectively carry out security policies that provide for protection of visitors, employees, animals and zoo assets. Position reports to the Director of Security with general oversight by the Security Supervisor. This position is part time and non- exempt.

Essential Job Functions *Duties will include, but are not limited to the following*

  • Duties will include but are not limited to monitoring and reporting on the following:
  • Record air & water temperatures at various exhibits, water filtration systems, intrusion detection alarms, fire suppression system, access control and security surveillance system.
  • Respond to calls for service, conduct foot/mobile/bike patrols and assist guests, employees, contractors and vendors with any security related and other Zoo related requests.
  • Perform Zoo unlocks and lock ups, accident investigations and incident reports, vehicle assistance requests, cash and vehicle escorts, lost prevention, missing persons, medical runs, assist with after-hour special events and monitor for any criminal activity.
  • Mentor seasonal officers.
  • Responsible for dissemination of information from special security instructions and bulletins, and notifying the proper authority in the case of an emergency or other serious circumstance pertaining to the grounds, exhibits or animals.
  • Ensure proper and accurate security records that reflect the activities of the shift.
  • Shall maintain strict adherence to the policies and procedures established by The Toledo Zoo Security Standard Operating Procedures Manual.
  • Performs other administrative and other related duties as required.
  • Assists in mentoring security personnel.
  • Acts as the point person and conducts shift meeting when Lead and Supervisor is not present.
  • Complete tasks upon assignment including but not limited to assisting with Dispatch, bike training, monthly fire extinguisher checks, camera cleaning, office cleaning, vehicle cleaning and vehicle equipment Inventory.
  • Assist with training new employees in the event the Lead or Supervisor is not present.
  • Submit Maintenance, IT and Security service tickets when Lead or Supervisor is not present.

Minimum Training & Qualifications:

  • Must have high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 2 years security experience, or degree in a related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior experience in law enforcement, fire science, or military background preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age, possess a valid drivers’ license and be insurable by the fleet insurance carrier.
  • The Toledo Zoo is a drug-free workplace, including marijuana
