Project Geotechnical Engineer/Civil Engineer

We are currently accepting applications for an immediate opening for a full time Project Geotechnical Engineer in Easton, Massachusetts. S. W. Cole Engineering team is an established employee owned firm with a history of over 40 years of success and stable growth serving clients throughout New England. This position involves planning, coordinating and leading project work and engineering assignments. Will also evaluate field and laboratory testing, and perform field services.
The Project Geotechnical Engineer independently evaluates and selects procedures based on specific project needs; manages and executes all aspects of projects by planning, preparing proposals, budgets, scopes, schedules, and assigning necessary tasks to staff involved with the project(s); analyzes, interprets and evaluates data from field and laboratory findings; communicating effectively and consistently with teammates, design professionals and contractors; accurately reviews project billing, and tracks time spent on projects consistently; safely operates and handling of company testing equipment and vehicles in accordance with company policies/safety policies; performs and/or coordinates field services (i.e. subgrade observations, pile driving observations, installation of geotechnical instrumentation, etc.); interacts during project work with staff, general public, clients, contractors, and others, attends project meetings and maintains specific client relationships; regularly attends professional meetings and business and industry events; and practices confidentiality according to company policy.
Job Requirements
- B.S. Civil Engineering required, with emphasis in Geotechnical Engineering, or Engineering Geology preferred.
- Familiarity with geology and site conditions in New England.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Rhode Island and/or Massachusetts, or, holds F.E./E.I.T. and ability to obtain P.E. within 1 year, required.
- Minimum of 4 years of related engineering and project management experience, or demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions required of Project Geotechnical Engineer.
- Risk management training.
- Valid driver’s license, active auto insurance, and reliable transportation.
- Experience with and in-depth knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Office, SharePoint, MathCAD, geotechnical analysis programs, and able to learn new programs.
- Understand and apply advanced, industry related math skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to direct and organize activities.
- Broad knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices.
- Skilled in collecting, analyzing, and organizing complex data.
- Ability to maintain records of materials, supplies, time, and work performed.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form.
- Has an established network of industry contacts and clients in New England and regularly participates in related trade events.
- Regularly spend long hours sitting/standing and using office equipment..
- Occasionally conducts field and/or laboratory testing on soil, aggregate and rock samples and equipment, requiring lifting, carrying and bending with up to 100 pounds.
- Driving for long periods of time and more frequent shorter trips.
- Close, distant, and peripheral vision.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form.
- Ability to remember and understand verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to reason logically and make decisions.
