Job Description

Pay Rate: $45.00 to $60.00 per hour.

Position Purpose:

Performs a variety of semi-skilled, skilled, technical work in the planning, scheduling, maintenance of plant equipment

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Involved in inspection, repair, and servicing of plant, shop, and field equipment/components.
  • Perform journey-level systems maintenance operations
  • Fabricate, weld, and fasten metals, plastics, composites using a wide range of milling, drilling and boring machinery.
  • Performs routine and preventative maintenance, diagnosis, troubleshooting, lubrication and minor adjustments on plant equipment. 
  • Inspects equipment for compliance with applicable policies, rules and regulations for safety. Take corrective action per procedure in assigned area. 
  • Investigates equipment damage, completes forms, participates and completes remedial actions to prevent further occurrences within assigned deadlines.
  • Performs all duties in compliance with Veolia Water safety policies and guidelines and makes others aware of potential hazards in the work area.  Practices good housekeeping.  Participates in cleaning of work areas machinery, tools and equipment.
  • Frequent contact with internal personnel in order to understand maintenance needs. 
  • May assist with maintaining parts, spares and maintenance inventory.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • May assist with orienting or training new or less experienced personnel.

Work Environment:

  • Spends 100% of time in shop or field environment. 
  • Typically spends 25 – 35% of time exposed to outdoor and sometimes inclement weather. 
  • Company service vehicles are used as required. 
  • Travels 1 – 2 times per year for company provided training. 
  • Possible Work Hazards: May be exposed to possible operations hazards including fumes, dust, toxic and caustic chemicals, noise, moving mechanical parts and vehicles, heavy machinery, high pressure and hot and cold temperatures, slippery surfaces, water and electrical hazards.
Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

  • High school or GED with the ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions) and be able to carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Must demonstrate ability to accurately record data from meters, gauges, scales, panels, computer consoles and other equipment.
  • Must have ability to safely operate construction-type equipment, drill press, bench press, grinder, band saw, electric charging systems testers, digital and computerized diagnostic instruments, air tools, wrenches, air compressor, lubricants, greases, cleaning equipment
  • Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary. 
  • Must have ability to operate Computer Maintenance Management System (software).
  • Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in the care and use of all site specific, facility required PPE (Personal Protection Equipment), including respirators, gas detectors, confined space equipment, etc.)
  • Must be able to participate in afterhours emergency callouts.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

  • Employee Orientation, Departmental Operating Procedures, OSHA and Quality Training.  Veolia equipment training.
  • Contributes and participates in required and recommended safety programs and training sessions.
  • HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) Level I and II First Responder Certification.  Work toward higher level water / wastewater treatment certification. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Amount of time spent – Standing 75%, Walking 25%.
  • Requires close visual and hearing observation to detect non-conformance and equipment malfunction.
  • Constantly uses hands to finger, handle or feel and frequently reaches with hands and arms. 
  • Works in various positions; works on ladders, and works with hands extended above and below head and body up to 40 minutes using hand and power tools weighing up to 15 pounds. 
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds (occasionally 60 pounds) distances of 10 feet. 
  • Occasional stooping, bending or kneeling and entering confined spaces.
