JOB TITLE: Underwriter III

REPORTS TO: Underwriting Manager

FLSA CLASS: Non-Exempt

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Underwriter is responsible for providing a loan decision based on an individual’s credit history, financial position, and strength of collateral. This person must have attained Direct Endorsement status from HUD and/or SARs authority from VA, and have an extensive understanding of FHA, VA and conventional guidelines. The ability to manage work flow and provide exemplary customer service is essential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Respond to post-closing, insuring and audit reviews in a timely fashion

  • Communicate loan decisions to appropriate parties both orally and/or in writing
  • Complete a thorough analysis of entire loan package to determine compliance with company, investor, and FHA/VA guidelines.
  • Provide training and coaching for Loan Officers, when needed.
  • Be available to Sales and Processing staff for interpretations and questions in general or for specific loan files.
  • Thorough knowledge of reviewing Residential appraisals.
  • Understand and maintain a thorough knowledge of all company, investor, correspondent programs and requirements.
  • Ability to calculate qualifying income including analyzing tax returns and financial statements.
  • Assume additional duties as they arise, cross-train within the department, and be responsive to the department
  • Helping the underwriting team to achieve productivity goals while individually meeting turn times for new loans and condition review
  • Sign off authority on delegated loans up to $1,000,000
  • Sign off authority up to $2,000,000
Requirements:

  • Work outside of the standard business day, as required
  • Familiar with FHLMC, FNMA, FHA , RD, and VA Guidelines

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum of 5 years Government Underwriting or equivalent experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is required to effectively communicate verbally. The employee must be able to effectively operate a keyboard. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands and occasionally lift and/or move up to 10-15 pounds. Vision abilities is required by this job include close vision.
