Job DescriptionJob Description

Alcala County Pet Resort is a leading dog boarding, daycare, and training facility. We seek a driven, experienced professional for an exciting Dog Trainer position with growth and autonomy opportunities. The trainer will execute an individualized training plan for up to 5 dogs daily using low-stress handling and errorless learning methodologies in line with LIMA best practices.

The best candidate would feel comfortable identifying problem behaviors and recommending programs for ongoing implementation. Office staff and Training Manager handle onboarding and initial client communication; you are responsible for designing and implementing training plans and maintaining ongoing client communication via daily report cards and private lessons. 

  • We are located at 1273 Crest Drive, Encinitas, CA 92024.
  • The 90-day onboarding period will consist of a TUE/THU schedule with half days on SUN during group classes. 
  • Each shift is always 8 hours daily. 
  • A full-time schedule would be four days per week, and those four days would likely be weekdays.
  • Trainers will start with three dogs plus three enrichment sessions (20-minute one-on-one sessions with boarding dogs).
  • A full-time trainer will work with four to five dogs at max.  
  • Comparable experience with exotic animal training will also be considered when applying. 

Responsibilities:

  • Meet with the Training Manager every week to conduct a review of cases and training plans.
  • Design and Implement the training plan per general guidelines provided by the training manager.
  • Conduct one-on-one training lessons with clients to relay progress and provide coaching on skills.
  • Maintain an organized schedule of client appointments and daily sessions.
  • Provide pictures and videos of clients and their dogs for company's social media.
  • Marketing responsibilities may include establishing and maintaining partnerships in the community, i.e., veterinarians, attending pet fairs, etc., as a representative of the company.

Compensation:

$22.50 - $27.00 / hour (starting wage depends on experience and how many dogs a trainer can add to their schedule) 

$1400 - $3200 / month

  • We are hiring for both part-time and full-time positions.
  • Expected hours are 16 to 30 hours per week.
  • The position will start part-time; after a 90-day probationary period, staff will have the option to transition to full-time.

Requirements:

Thorough knowledge of canine behavior and experience ranging from puppy training to basic obedience are required. Experience with complex behavior issues, up to and including aggression, is preferred. 

  • Professional certification is required (CCPDT or IAABC). If you are not currently certified but have completed an educational program, you must be willing and able to obtain certification within six months of hire.
  • Experienced in operant and classical conditioning with an emphasis on positive reinforcement methods and techniques preferred.
  • A minimum of 1 year (3+ preferred) of professional dog training experience, including one-on-one training and experience as a group class instructor, is required. Experience with day training and/or board-and-train programs is preferred.
  • Comfortable working with dogs of all ages, sizes, breeds, and temperaments
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills
  • Dependable, professional, and punctual
  • Basic computer skills
  • The ability to work during peak traffic periods during weekdays and weekends
  • Requires the ability to lift 50+ lbs., stand for long periods, climb stairs, maneuver through obstacles
  • Occasional assistance with kennel and or play group operations. We work as a team from top to bottom, and everyone helps when necessary to ensure a quality standard of care for all.
