JOB SUMMARY

The Clinician provides staff, clients, family members and community members with information and education about mental health symptoms, mental health treatment, substance abuse and strategies for relapse prevention as related to supporting their housing and overall wellness. This role provides therapeutic services in the community and develops implements social model interventions.

  • Provide therapeutic counseling and treatment to clients in the community and coordinate the full range of client needs.
  • Complete SUD and Mental Health assessments incorporating ASAM criteria. Determine type and level of care using ASAM placement criteria.
  • Properly document services in the clinical record and prepare service/recovery/treatment plans as appropriate.
  • Conduct chart and treatment plan reviews to ensure compliance with agency, federal, state, and local government standards. Conduct file review and attend Quality Assurance Review meetings.
  • Gather information for intake assessment. Conduct intake interviews and complete individual assessments of client’s status and required comprehensive services.
  • Assist with making appropriate referrals to community providers coordinating and arranging proposed treatment placements. Facilitate placement including arranging pre-placement visits and transportation. Transport clients when necessary.
  • Develop and maintain a caseload as assigned by the Mental Health Program Supervisor.
  • Conduct individual and group sessions, crisis intervention, client education groups, and other core competency functions of an SUD/MH clinician.
  • Acts as PSC to provide service coordination/case management for an assigned group of clients including coordinating and monitoring activities of the treatment team.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings, reads memos, directives, meeting minutes, and revised policies and procedures as posted, and provides input towards policy and procedure design, revision, and deletion.
  • Maintains a minimum degree of training and knowledge in cultural competency, co-occurring and gender responsiveness, and trauma-informed care.
  • Support clients in developing supportive plans that assist in maintaining housing.
  • Provide engagement and outreach to current and potential clients in the community.
  • Complete housing documentation as required by Program Supervisor.
  • Provide service coordination / case management for an assigned group of clients including coordinating and monitoring activities of the treatment team.
  • Possesses skills necessary to provide effective counseling, therapy and clinical services, and the ability to successfully work as a member of a treatment team.
  • Strong ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with minimal direction and supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage responsibilities as evidenced by timely completion of tasks.
  • Trained and experienced in Motivational Interview training and the Stages of Change Model.
  • Cultural competency relevant to community/communities served. Must be able to engage culturally diverse populations.
  • Provide support to all clients including on-call crisis intervention covering nighttime and weekend hours.
  • Comply with all charting and documentation requirements per contract, funding agency, and MHS policy.
  • Comply with all MHS and program rules, policies and procedures including HIPPA standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in clinical counseling or clinical psychology, and registration with the Board of Behavioral Sciences as an AMFT, ACSW, or APCC. Licensure as an LMFT, LPCC, or LCSW is also accepted.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cultural and socio-economic factors that inform service provision to persons with psychiatric or dual diagnosis disorders.
  • Skills necessary to provide effective counseling, therapy, and clinical services, and the ability to successfully work as a member of a treatment team, while working cooperatively with intra-agency and interagency staff.
  • Knowledgeable of cultural and socio-economic factors that inform service provision to persons with psychiatric or dual diagnosis disorders, and knowledgeable of community resources that will be utilized by clients.
  • Fosters excellent rapport with clients and builds trusting and motivating relationships, while maintaining the distinction between therapeutic and social relationships.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Valid California driver’s license and current auto insurance per contract requirements.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite and EHR software.
  • Ability to problem solve and react appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate with a team.
