Assist surgeons, registered nurses, and other members of the surgical team in the operating room.


 Duties and responsibilities


  • Maintain the sterile field throughout the surgical procedures.
  • Scrub arms and hands according to established protocol.
  • Assist the surgical team with scrubbing in and putting on gloves and masks.
  • Pass surgical instruments to surgeons as needed during surgical procedures.
  • Hold re-tractors and complete additional tasks at surgeon’s request during procedures.
  • Handle tissue specimens obtained for laboratory analysis.
  • Count sponges, rags, needles, and instruments before, during, and after procedures.
  • Following surgeries, wash and sterilize all medical instruments and equipment.
  • Clean, organize and restock the operating room following surgical procedures.
  • Supply fluids for use during operations; including blood, glucose, plasma, and saline.
  • Prepare patients for surgical procedures.
  • Ensure proper operation of equipment such as lights and suction machines.
  • Offer technical assistance to the surgical team; surgeons, nurses, & anesthesiologists.
  • Makes sure all supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure are present and in working order.
  • Assists in draping the sterile field.


 Basic Qualifications


  • Minimum one (1) year of acute Operating Room experience within the past three (3) years OR graduation from an approved surgical technician program within the past year.
  • Experience with minimal access, general, ENT, plastics, vascular and maxi facial surgeries. And all other needed equipment to do the above surgeries preferred.
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • BLS
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other incumbents of the organization.
  • Basic computer skills.
