The Lab Chemist at Polyvinyl Films, Inc. is responsible for:

Analyze substances to determine their composition and concentration of elements.
Conduct tests on materials and other substances to meet safety and quality standards.
Write technical reports that detail methods and findings.
Keep electronic and paper records of lab tests and other related documentation.
Prepare compounds, test solutions, and reagents to conduct tests and experiments for new products.
Develop, improve, and customize equipment, products, formulas, analytical methods, and processes.
Induce reactions to chemical substances with light, energy, heat, and chemical catalysts.
Document findings in technical papers and reports, preparing specifications and testing standards.
Clean and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment, ensuring all the technology works correctly; troubleshoot lab issues.
Conduct quality control tests to ensure the lab equipment is in good working condition.
Order laboratory supplies and chemicals, keeping an eye on expiration dates.
Maintain equipment calibration as recommended by the manufacturer.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


Responsible for conducting testing and producing test reports and MS Excel charts to illustrate graphically the test results.
Perform routine operations, maintenance, calibration, and ability to troubleshooting of laboratory equipment and instruments.
Collect and prepare samples for chemical/physical analysis of raw materials, in-process and finished products, and competitors products.
Perform operational activities of the chemistry lab, such as housekeeping, maintaining documentation, etc.
Support Polyvinyl Films Inc. in such a matter as to fulfill the companys mission statement, quality objectives, and safety objectives.
Adhere to internal standards, policies, and procedures.
Create statistical and analytical reports.
Define and implement continuous improvement projects to eliminate defects occurring in mixing operations.
Research and development of new products.
Responsible and capable of using lab equipment: Instron tensiometer, Resin sieve tester, shore durometer, micrometers and calipers, and other equipment typically used in the plastic industry.
Perform cling and peel test as per ASTM standards.
Write Standard Operating procedures and work instructions as needed.
Perform other duties not listed.










QUALIFICATIONS:


Minimum of 3-5+ years
A BS degree in chemistry or material science is required.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
Strong attention to detail.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to read and write in English to interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Advanced level math skills.
Advanced MS Office knowledge
Extensive knowledge of Bluehill software.
Experience with plastic processing operations
Broad knowledge of ASTM cling and peel standards
