Night Shift Opportunity (4:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m.) **Saturday's during peak season


Summary

Supervises department to meet established quality and production performance standards. Department supervised may be functions of Cutting, Packing, Pasteurizing/Capping, Finished Goods.


Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Assures all employee safety, food safety and food quality rules and regulations are followed. Communicates same to employees. Assures all employees are properly trained and are performing their duties in these areas.
  • Monitors adherence to and assures compliance with “Standard Operating Procedures” (SOP’s) and “Good Manufacturing Practices.”
  • Supervises and coordinates all departmental activities prior to beginning of each shift to ensure “on-schedule” start-ups.
  • Assigns job tasks to departmental employees as dictated by day-to-day production requirements.
  • Utilizes machinery and personnel to get maximum production and efficiency for each production run. Works to reduce and eliminate all sources of waste including raw materials, time, and equipment failures. Evaluates performance and quality of product all during the run.
  • Monitors conditions of all equipment in assigned department. Writes work requests for repairs, needed changes, or additions.
  • If applicable, maintains departmental forklift data daily. Assures all forklifts are in working order. Reviews and turns in forklift checklists daily.
  • Coordinates work activities with other departments of Company. Works closely with other supervisors to avoid confusion, misunderstandings and resulting downtime.
  • Meets regularly with Superintendent to discuss problems, opportunities, schedules, safety conditions, etc.
  • Reviews departmental reports for accuracy, completeness, and promptness.
  • Accountable for results in terms of costs, budgets, methods, safety, quantity, and quality of production, operations and personnel.
  • Maintains and updates a variety of relevant reports and spreadsheets on computer. Maintains computer and paper files as needed.
  • Maintains areas of operation in a safe and sanitary manner. Makes effective use of and makes recommendations on physical assets. Determines that established safety rules, Company policy and good housekeeping are followed.

  • In the event of this employee’s absence, supervisory duties related to food safety and food quality will be assumed by the Production Superintendent.

Other Duties

  • May perform some duties of subordinates or other Production Supervisors in absence of same.
  • May occasionally operate forklift in performance of some job duties.
  • Occasionally drives own or company vehicle in performance of some job duties.
  • Ensures proper selection, training, evaluation, and discipline of and communication with employees.
  • Participates in training, employee meetings, committees, project teams, etc. as appropriate.
  • Receives written and verbal instructions on the above job tasks and performs other duties as directed by Supervisor.
Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Requires high school education plus additional technical or specialized training, including successful completion of Acidified Foods GMP School. Must have good written and verbal communication skills. 3 years in production processes and good working knowledge of mechanical processes and equipment. Working knowledge of applicable laws, rules, and regulations (federal, state, EEOC, ESC, EPA, OHSA, ADA, etc.). Must speak, read and write in English. Conversational Spanish a plus.

Must demonstrate aptitude to manage people, set example by own conduct and work habits, make prompt and competent decisions, use authority wisely and maintain discipline, morale and teamwork at high standard.


Supervisory Responsibilities

Exercises normal supervisory functions over assigned area.


Machines, Equipment, Tools Used

Personal computer, standard office equipment, forklift, own or company vehicle.


Physical Demands

Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.

Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.

Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with the fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.

Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make find discriminations in sound.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures: transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

Regular office and plant conditions. Long hours and work weeks required during intake season. Access to certain confidential data.
