Title: Surgical Technician - OR

Job Summary

The Surgical Technician - OR will assist the surgical team in the operating room by preparing the operating room, arranging instruments, and assisting during surgical procedures. This role requires detailed knowledge of surgical techniques, instrumentation, and maintaining a sterile environment. The Surgical Technician will work closely with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety and successful surgical outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operating Room Preparation: Set up operating rooms prior to surgery, ensuring all instruments, supplies, and equipment are sterile and ready for use.
  • Instrument Handling: Assist surgeons during operations by passing instruments and supplies, maintaining the sterile field, and anticipating the needs of the surgical team.
  • Patient Preparation: Assist with the positioning and preparation of patients for surgery, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Equipment Management: Operate and maintain surgical equipment. Ensure all equipment is functioning properly and troubleshoot any issues.
  • Sterilization: Follow strict protocols for sterilization and infection control. Sterilize instruments and equipment before and after procedures.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of procedures, supplies used, and patient information.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure efficient and effective surgical procedures.
  • Post-Operative Care: Assist in the care and transport of patients following surgery. Clean and restock the operating room for the next procedure.
Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum of 2+ years of experience as a Surgical Technician in an operating room setting.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Completion of a Surgical Technology program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
  • Certifications:
    • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification is preferred.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Skills:
    • Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and equipment.
    • Attention to Detail: Ability to maintain a sterile environment and follow strict protocols.
    • Communication: Effective communication skills for interacting with surgical teams and patients.
    • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and handle the physical demands of the job.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced Certification: Advanced certifications or additional training in specialized surgical areas are a plus.
  • Experience with Specific Procedures: Experience in various surgical procedures, including general surgery, orthopedics, and OB/GYN, is preferred but not required.
Education
  • Required Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Completion of a Surgical Technology program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES.
