Job DescriptionJob DescriptionPowder Coater / SandblasterSUMMARYThe Powder Coater / Sandblaster is responsible for all duties of a Sandblaster/Shop helper, as well as proper application of protective coatings to manufactured products. The activities include proper set up, safe operation, maintenance of sandblasting and powder coating equipment, preparation and pre-treatment of materials to be coated, and management of powder coating supplies inventory. This position also requires the use of material handling equipment, for the safe movement of steel parts and assemblies in a manufacturing/shop environment.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES· Prepare surfaces to be coated using various methods to remove grease, dirt, and rust· Chemically pre-treat metal surfaces· Select appropriate coating to produce the desired finish and color· Visually inspect the quality of the coating· Use appropriate equipment to apply coatings to surfaces· Mix powders and chemical compounds according to manufacturer instructions· Start extractors, drying fans, and heaters· Touch up defective areas of coated items· Operate forklift to move and store materials in a safe manner· Perform routine maintenance on booth and powder coating equipment· Clean all aspects of parts and equipment as required· Inform supervisor of pending shortages in parts and materials· Manage powder coating supplies inventory· Detect defective material/workmanship and report it to the Shift Supervisor· Properly utilize safety equipment· Maintain and safeguard company owned equipment and tools· Maintain work area in clean and safe condition· Ensure all completed tasks meet company specified quality standards· All duties and responsibilities of the Sandblaster/Shop Helper job description· Perform other duties and tasks as assignedEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE· High School Diploma or equivalent plus 2years. minimum in an industrial powder coating environment OR· Trade School graduate plus 6 mo. minimum in an industrial powder coating work environmentKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIESFundamental knowledge and application of powder coating processesFundamental knowledge and application of hand tools and automated machines (i.e. square, tape measure, grinders, de-burring equipment, and forklift)Ability to read and work off of a tape measure and shop drawing with 100% accuracyAbility to work independently and effectively under general supervision, to assure accurate, complete and timely completion of work assignmentsAbility to handle multiple tasks simultaneouslySkill and ability to meet and exceed the company’s Standards of PerformanceLANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read, write and interpret the English languageAbility to express oneself verbally in English with clarityAbility to read and interpret in English documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manualsMATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to accurately use, interpret and apply numbers from a tape measure to product manufacturingAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimalsREASONING ABILITYAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formAbility to assume responsibility in situations requiring actionPHYSICAL DEMANDSVision – Ability to see clearly printed material at close range (12 inches or less). Position requires ability to lift up to 75 lbs.WORK ENVIRONMENTSandblasting and Powder Coating is located inside a shop environment subject to seasonal temperature fluctuations. Work performed near moving mechanical parts, in the presence of welding fumes or airborne particles, and loud noises associated with manufacturing. You will be exposed to chemicals known to cause health issues.DRESS CODESteel toed boots are required and are the employees’ responsibility. Work uniforms, safety equipment, hearing and eye protection are provided for this position. You will be required to wear full body protective gear such as body suits including full enclosed head gear or breathing masks while performing some of your operational duties (sandblasting or powder coating processes.)WORK SCHEDULE/HOURSNormal/regular work schedule is 40 hours per week.Shift 1 – Monday through Friday 4:30 am – 1:00 pm, Overtime may be required.Shift 2 – Monday through Friday 6:30 am – 3:00 pm, Overtime may be required.Shift 3 – Monday through Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Overtime may be required.Shift 4 – Monday through Friday 10:00 am – 6:30 pm, Overtime may be required.
