The Welder position is accountable for using hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metal components, or to fill holes, indentations or seams of fabricated metal products. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: various types of welding preparation tasks; welding products; and following customer drawings, specifications or other forms of instructions to create a finished manufactured product according to the designs.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions
- Operate safety equipment and follow all required safety guidelines
- Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, rulers and any other necessary tools to ensure proper assembly
- Examine workpieces for defects and measure workpieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications
- Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment
- Operate welding equipment proficiently
- Assemble metal or plastic parts or products
- Interpretation of mechanical drawings, instructions, designs, etc.
- Knowledge of wire and filler materials applications for various steel alloys, aluminum, and some exotic materials
- Working knowledge of fixtures and weld set-up parameters (amps, volts, etc.)
- Process inspection, certification, and documentation
- Welding equipment maintenance as needed
Experience and Education
- ASME certification
- TIG welding experience a plus
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current welding certification
- 3-5 years of welding experience
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently
- Detail oriented
- Ability to read, write and communicate clearly with others
