Position Summary:

Responsible for assigned clerical and nutrition assistant duties. Determine program eligibility of participants following the policies and procedures of the NYSDOH WIC Program Manual. Works at all sites, as assigned.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinic and office support to the Nutrition Staff.
  • Provide participant centered customer service for participants.
  • Set the tone for excellent customer service to participants as they enter the clinic.
  • Orient and educate participants to the WIC program including, but not limited to: conduct program orientation, including explaining program benefits, issuing eWIC card, setting up WIC2GO and providing list of authorized vendors
  • Review program Rights & Responsibilities with participants.
  • Make appointment reminder and no-show calls.
  • Participate in National Voter Registration Activities by assisting participants to register to vote as needed.
  • Collect information for the nutrition assessment process, including eligibility, review of WIC Medical Referral Form and other documents.
  • Obtain anthropometric (heights and weights) and hematological data, as trained. Maintain quality control logs.
  • Participate in breastfeeding promotion and support.
  • Provide and document referrals to health and social services other community partners.
  • Identify and refer participants to Nutrition Staff.
  • Assist Nutrition Staff in implementing participant-centered nutrition education.
  • Attends staff meetings and maintains 6 continuing education credits annually
  • Achieves proficiency in NYWIC computer system.
  • Travels to all sites, transports laptops, computers and other equipment to sites, as needed.
  • May have to lift up to 30lbs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Must be able to demonstrate competency in:

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working well with a diverse population.
  • Being sensitive to the cultural needs of the WIC population.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Licensed Practical Nurse preferred.
