Essential Job Duties:

  • Investigate complaints of cruelty to animals.
  • Collect evidence on cruelty cases.
  • Complete paperwork pertaining to cases in a professional and timely manner.
  • Respond to complaints pertaining to cases/ case development.
  • Perform on-call duties.
  • Assist other agencies or persons with concerns about animals in need.
  • Conduct educational programs as requested.
  • Carry out responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies and applicable State and Federal laws.
  • Observe all safety rules and regulations for self and others.
  • Maintain good housekeeping.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
Requirements:

Education & Experience: New York Certified Police Officer or Peace Officer; scene response and crime investigation experience preferred. Associate degree in criminal justice or a related field preferred. Knowledge of basic animal care and handling strongly preferred. A combination of education and experience will be considered if aligned with the position.

Qualifications: Certified applicants: Must hold a current police or peace officer certification from an established law Enforcement agency. Must not have been separated from service for more the four years for police officer and 1 year for peace officer. Non-Certified applicants: If not certified, applicants must be able to successfully complete training in accordance with New York State's Municipal Police Training Council. (The police academy is 24 weeks and an additional twenty weeks of field training). To be considered as a non-certified applicant, candidates must meet the New York State Municipal Police Training Council levels of testing including:

  • Physical Ability Test
  • Psychological Evaluation
  • Background Investigation
  • Medical Examination

Skills: Ability to interpret business documents. Ability to deliver routine reports and business correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with public groups and employees throughout the organization. Ability to testify in a court of law and understand/interpret New York State Law. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions. Basic computer skills, ability to learn internal software. Position requires the use of firearm, radio, pepper spray, baton and animal capture equipment.


Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position during shift and move throughout the building. Performance may also require prolonged periods of repetitive motion. Frequently required to communicate with others. Occasionally required to move excessive weight. Ability to handle animals. Investigators must be able to perform duties in high stress situations typically associated with a routine radio call or a critical incident.
