POSITION DESCRIPTION

La Cheim Behavioral Health Services is a non-profit community mental health center in Oakland, California, that provides a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for adults, as well as some outpatient services for all ages. The clinical work in this position consists of providing and documenting client-centered, trauma-informed and strengths-based
individual and group therapy, with a short-term stabilization focus, to a population of severely and persistently mentally ill adult
clients, many of whom have a history of substance abuse. This is a 32-hour a week, mostly on-site position, with medical, vision, dental and other benefits. The pay is $40 - $42/hour, based
upon experience.

RESPONSIBILTIES

The job involves providing psychological, educational, and case management services to patients in the PHP/IOP program and other outpatients. This includes conducting individual and group therapy sessions, establishing therapeutic rapport, maintaining group dynamics, ensuring confidentiality, conducting suicide and risk assessments, creating treatment plans, collaborating with internal and external care teams, providing individual and family therapy, managing absences and disruptive behaviors, referring patients to higher levels of care when necessary, and responding to check-in requests from colleagues. The clinician is also responsible for creating a warm and trauma-informed environment for patients and coworkers, meeting documentation deadlines, and maintaining productivity by carrying a caseload of up to 8 clients and facilitating or co-facilitating up to 8 groups per week.

REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate for this position must be licensed as an LMFT, LPCC or LCSW in the state of California. They should have experience working with adults with severe mental illness and at least one year of experience in providing group therapy. The candidate should be able to facilitate therapeutic and didactic groups using various treatment modalities such as CBT, psychoeducation, and expressive arts. They should have excellent mental health charting and basic computer skills, as well as strong time management and organizational abilities. The candidate should be able to work both independently and collaboratively within a treatment team. Lastly, they should have a commitment to cultural humility and sensitivity, fostering a respectful and inclusive environment for both colleagues and patients.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

There is no crawling, climbing, or overhead reaching, but some crouching and kneeling may be necessary. Balancing, pushing, and pulling are not required, but lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds may be necessary. There is no repetitive use of feet or hands, but up to 1 hour of grasping objects and fine dexterity is required. The candidate should have normal auditory and visual abilities, and the work environment may involve typical dust, heat, and noise. There is also the possibility of encountering emotionally disturbed individuals who may exhibit physical and verbal violence, requiring safe physical management techniques.

BENEFITS

This position offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including medical, vision, dental, and other benefits. There are opportunities for professional development and continuing education. The work environment is supportive and collaborative. The work itself is meaningful and has a positive impact on individuals and the community.
