About the Position

The Professional Accountant makes a significant impact in our team and for our clients (“business partners”) by providing impressive expertise, accuracy, skill, and savviness in the accounting functions. You will work under the direction of the Accounting Team Lead, partner with other Accountants, and review the work of Administrative Specialists to assist in managing client business-partner portfolios and reflect Missionwell’s values.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinate setup of new client accounts with the Team Lead, Associate Accountants, Administrative Specialists, and other teams/departments.
  • Manage client portfolios:
  • Maintain compliance including tax and other regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure payroll and accounting controls.
  • Provide ongoing financial reporting, analysis, business modeling, annual business plan, and customer satisfaction.
  • Establish gift-handling rules.
  • Create annual workflow calendars.
  • Ensure nonprofit best practices are maintained.
  • Execute client service agreement deliverables while maintaining excellent customer service.
  • Identify and solve problems of overages in hours promptly and refer issues and solutions to our Managing Member.
  • Oversee preparation of contribution acknowledgments and donor statements, invoices and customer statements.
  • Review the work of Associate Accountants and Administrative Specialists ensuring proper financial controls in receiving and posting journal entries, payroll processing, expense reporting, monthly closing, bank reconciliations, transaction processing and gift handlings/contributions.
  • Efficiently synchronize and/or align all financial applications with each other for accuracy and consistent data across multiple systems.
  • Oversee cash and risk management
  • Manage annual insurance renewal process
  • Review and approve contracts
  • Monitor cash flow and advise accordingly
  • Maintain accurate project action items with status updates in Missionwell’s project management tools; maintain accurate timekeeping.
  • Keep informed of organizational announcements, activities, and changes via a regular reading of Missionwell’s communication tools and attendance at staff meetings.
  • Maintain a professional development plan for yourself and present this to your supervisor for regular, quarterly review and support.
  • Maintain a strict level of confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Attend and participate in staff and team meetings as requested.
  • Fulfill other duties and responsibilities as requested or as routinely assigned.


Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (minimum) and/or 5+ years prior experience.
  • Bookkeeper certification, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Nonprofit accounting and payroll experience is a big plus
  • Knowledge of GAAP.
  • Knowledge of Financial and ERP systems – QuickBooks, Great Plains and MS Dynamics GP
  • Computer literacy: a proficiency in accounting software, email, MS Office, and a capacity to learn other programs as needed.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and via email with an attitude of grace and respect.
  • Ability to handle problems in a positive manner, finding effective solutions and/or knowing where to seek assistance.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy of work.
  • Team leadership and business acumen.
  • Punctuality and dependability.
  • Ability to work independently in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Solid time management and organizational skills with the ability to adapt to change, multi-task and be flexible.
  • A familiarity with or a willingness to learn about nonprofit accounting and an understanding of religious organizations and nonprofits will give the candidate an advantage in servicing the clients.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements The following abilities are required for the position:

  • Work at a desk in an office or home-office setting; Sit at an office desk for extended periods of time.
  • Work for extended periods of time at a computer, requiring the ability to send and receive information with necessary optical, auditory, and manual dexterity.
  • Use a keyboard and mouse to enter, retrieve or transfer words or data information and/or move from screen to screen on the computer to view information.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; comprehend and speak English.
  • Display the reading skills necessary to proofread written material.
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations.
