SUMMARY

Provides a key component of UCCA’s professional development program for all education staff of the Head Start/Early Head Start program by conducting meaningful and frequent observations of all classrooms in order to assess all education staff for the purpose of identifying strengths and areas of needed support for each education staff member of the Head Start/Early Head Start program.  Identifies staff who would benefit most from intensive coaching and develops and delivers intensive and intentional coaching, mentoring, modeling and training support to these staff members.  Ensures that staff not identified as in need of intensive support continue to receive on-going research-based professional development programs that are aligned with the Head Start/Early Head Start program goals.  Practices on-going and active communication with the Program Director, Child Development (Education) Manager, and Site Managers to ensure that coaching, mentoring, and training programs are in line with program goals, school readiness goals, curriculum, and other professional development objectives assigned to employees.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.
Primary
  1. Develops a positive and supportive relationship with classroom staff and their supervisors.  
  2. Conducts meaningful and frequent observations in all classrooms, providing both positive and constructive feedback to education staff based on those observations.  Provides all education staff with effective teacher practices modeling on a routine basis.  Documents all observations and feedback given and submits reports regularly to the Program Director.   
  3. Assesses staff to determine those most in need of intensive coaching by using the written documentation and data obtained during classroom observations. Delivers intensive coaching and effective teacher practices modeling components to those staff members.  Ensures that all coaching, mentoring, training, and modeling interactions are documented and reported to the Program Director.
  4. Works with the Child Development Manager and the employee’s supervisor, to ensure that staff members who are not determined to need intensive coaching continue to receive research-based professional development opportunities that are aligned with school readiness and program goals. 
  5. Provides continuous and ongoing coaching, mentoring and effective teacher practices modeling for all education staff of the Head Start/Early Head Start program.     
  6. Assists education staff with planning & pacing lessons to ensure developed lesson plans align with School Readiness Goals, program goals, and meet the needs of the children in the classroom.
  7. Collaborates with education staff, and management, to ensure that education staff have the resources, materials, tools, and information necessary to support lesson planning and classroom instruction. 
  8. Supports education staff by working actively with the Child Development Manager and Site Manager(s) to develop and deliver training on Creative Curriculum, Teaching Strategies, CLASS, and ITERS/ECERS. 
  9. Monitors and evaluates student assessment data from Teaching Strategies during each checkpoint period and works collaboratively with the Child Development Manager to determine if any changes in instructional practice are needed to increase student achievement. 
  10. Conducts CLASS assessments in Head Start and Early Head Start classrooms, at the direction of the Program Director. 
  11. Develops and maintains an understanding of all Head Start Performance Standards included in 45 CRF Chapter XIII RIN 0970-AC63.
  12. Develops and maintains an understanding of all North Carolina Child Care rules under 10A NCAC.
  13. Completes and submits a report monthly to the Program Director.
Secondary
  1. Performs additional duties as assigned by the Program Director.
  2. Attends monthly management Team Meetings.
  3. Attends all pre-service/in-service training.
  4. Facilitates monthly “New Teacher” meetings for new teachers.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field a from an accredited four-year college; and two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Employee must pass pre-employment physical, drug screening, and TB screening, and must submit to both for-cause and random drug screenings.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The incumbent must demonstrate a working knowledge of Head Start performance standards and NC Day Care regulations.  Must be able to operate a desktop computer, related software, printer, copier, calculator, fax, and phone.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Incumbent is required to have a CLASS Certification and state issued driver's license
