Position Summary:

The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for a variety of tasks relating to setting up and maintaining electrical infrastructure. This position is in charge of installing electrical wiring in commercial buildings, troubleshooting malfunctions and blackouts, and repairing electrical systems.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Execute plans of electrical wiring for well-functioning lighting, alarm, and other electrical systems.
  • Examine diagrams of circuits, outlets, load centers, and panel boards.
  • Follow state and local building codes during installation and inspection.
  • Install electrical fixtures and equipment for complete electrical systems.
  • Install safety and distribution components (e.g. switches, resistors, circuit-breaker panels, etc.).
  • Connect wiring in electrical circuits and networks ensuring compatibility of components.
  • Prepare and assemble conduits and connect wiring through them.
  • Consult with engineers, engineering technicians, line installers and repairers, or industrial machinery mechanics and maintenance workers when performing installations.
  • Prevent breakdown of systems by routinely inspecting and replacing old wiring and insulated cables, cleaning circuits, etc.
  • Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions, and repair or substitute damaged units.

Immediate Supervisor: This position reports to the Electrical Superintendent.


Required Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Proven experience as an Electrician.
  • Diploma in relevant vocational training or successfully completed apprenticeship as an Electrician.
  • Experience in commercial electrical systems.
  • Ability to use electrical tools (e.g. wire strippers, voltmeter etc.) and analyze electrical drawings and blueprints.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and legal regulations and guidelines.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability.
