POSTION SUMMARY
The Process Engineer is responsible for the technical aspect of manufacturing operations to achieve department goals and objectives. Collaborates with supporting functions such as maintenance, quality, shipping and receiving, technical, and procurement to improve manufacturing operators regarding safety, efficiency, and cost-reductions. The Process Engineer must have a strong commitment to EHS principles and programs.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and lead the implementation of new processes to improve safety, quality, customer service, productivity, and costs.
- Work with production personnel to refine and improve existing processes and procedures.
- Ensure that all existing processes are fully documented and can be used for training new operators.
- Write procedures and/or operating instructions for new equipment and processes.
- Work with maintenance or contract personnel for process improvement and equipment installations.
- Be a strong leader in EHS programs, standards, and behaviors including risk assessments.
- Collect and analyze data to drive improvements in manufacturing processes. Develop and implement means to get data that is not readily available.
- Develop best practices, routines, and innovative solutions to improve production rates and quality of output.
- Work to minimize and or eliminate product variation thus improving quality and reducing scrap/rework.
- Investigate and troubleshoot problems that arise from customer complaints, processes, procedures, and/or operations of new and current products.
- Provide manufacturing support and troubleshooting including new product development and start-up operations.
- Lead cross-functional root cause analysis teams for problem solving.
- Promote/support the Quality Management System including ISO standards.
- Hands-on work with plant equipment, chemicals, and machinery.
- Communicate ideas and learnings to the Plant Manager and team members. Work together to implement process modifications and new approaches.
- Using excellent written and verbal communication skills, develop professional relationships with all departments involved in manufacturing.
- Conduct performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 5 years of process engineering experience
QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS
- BS in Chemical Engineering
- Experience with batch processes in the plastics or rubber industry a plus
- High commitment to safety
- Demonstrated ability to work with others in a team setting.
- Must be collaborative, a team player, but also be able to lead as necessary
- Strong verbal and written skills
- Must be comfortable wearing PPE everyday
- Strong analytical, technical and strategic thinking skills
- Demonstrated ability perform root cause analysis and develop sustainable corrective actions
- ISO 9001 and Management experience a plus
- Microsoft Office knowledge
