The Position: The Kitchen Assistant I supports the daily food preparation for King Arthur’s Café and kitchen. The individual in this role works with strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment. The Kitchen Assistant I regularly receives ongoing training within the kitchen and from the King Arthur team of dedicated and talented employee-owners.

The Location: Norwich, VT; onsite daily.

The Pay: $17.85 to $18.76 per hour worked.

The Schedule: Both part-time (an average of 24 hours per week) and full-time positions are available.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures preparation and cleanup of all prepared foods.
  • Adheres to department punctuality expectations to support kitchen production.
  • Adheres to and maintains all food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Masters all working zones in kitchen, food preparation and line production.
  • Attends all scheduled employee meetings, bring suggestions for improvement, and engages in the development of the kitchen.
  • Accurately checks in, labels and stocks product deliveries.

Minimum job requirements

  • Passion for food preparation and dedication to consistently produce exceptional food.
  • Availability to work various shifts, including weekends and early mornings, in accordance with business needs. 
  • Ability to interact well with team members and customers.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Effectively shares space, ingredients and equipment with coworkers during production. 
  • Ability to do dishes, clean and sanitize kitchen.  
  • A desire for continuously improving culinary skills.
  • Complete ServSafe training within 1 year of date of hire.

Physical requirements/work environment

  • Physical requirements
    1. Able to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment. 
    2. Able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently push, pull, move and/or lift up to 50 pounds.
    3. Able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours)

    1. Able to work in hot, wet, humid environment for long periods of time.
