With this acquisition, Grask Truck Group (GTG Peterbilt) adds stores in Wichita, Great Bend and Hays, Kansas nearly doubling their size of operation in the Midwest. We have an immediate opening for a Mechanical Technician in Wichita, KS. The successful candidate will perform service and repair on heavy duty trucks covering all makes and models. If you are looking for a new opportunity, we encourage you to apply and grow with us

Requirements:
  • Review each repair order and estimator's notes to understand repairs needed prior to beginning work on the truck.
  • Test equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications; make necessary adjustments if required.
  • Perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
  • Remove, dismantle, and reassemble all types of mechanical equipment.
  • Maintain vehicle records with accurate documentation of service and repairs.
  • Install and repair truck equipment per the manufacturer's technical repair process.
  • Identify mechanical design, troubleshoots machinery, provides machinery improvements or identifies problems and recommends modifications necessary for resolution.
  • Accept ownership for accomplishing new & different requests & exploring value added opportunities.
  • Use good judgment to maintain a safe & organized work environment.
  • Apply knowledge and work in accordance with DOT, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other rules and regulations as required.
  • Other general shop duties as assigned.

Skills:

  • Solid working knowledge of power tools required to perform all phases of truck/chassis repair and maintenance.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Professional and safety minded at all times.
  • Excellent communication both verbal and written, listening skills.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in fast-paced environment.
  • Work with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Work well independently as well as part of a team.


Education:

  • Preferred minimum of High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.


Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license and be insurable. CDL preferred.
  • Must be able to pass mandatory pre-employment drug screen and background check
  • Must have own toolbox and tools.
  • Steel toe shoes or boots needed. $250 allowance offered after initial 90-day training and evaluation period.


Additional Information:

Physical: Working in, under, and around trucks and trailers. Ability to lift, push or pull, objects of various shapes, sizes and weights. Safely walk, reach, bend, climb, push, twist, squat and kneel as necessary to perform the essential job duties. Safely walk and stand for extended periods of time.

Environmental: Primarily indoors with some outdoor work. High noise level. Uniforms, ear and eye protection provided.
