JOB PURPOSE:

The Program Coordinator is responsible for the planning, implementation, management, assessment, reporting, and working directly with students to ensure ongoing improvement of Navajo Technical University's Tribal Colleges and University Head Start Partnership Program (TCU). The Early Childhood Program Coordinator will aim to increase the number of qualified educators in Head Start Centers throughout the Navajo Nation. A successful applicant will have extensive experience in providing direct services to students through; academic coaching, course scheduling/advisement, and coordination with student recruitment efforts, planning professional development training for students; familiarity with Head Start programming and state teacher certification processes; addresses the diverse challenges that arise within the program and demonstrate strong skills in oral and written communication, developing community partnerships, and leading diverse individuals and teams to shared visions.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate TCU planning, implementation, management, assessment, reporting, and ongoing improvement.
  • Coordinate grants management including the NTU-NNHS Partnership.
  • Coordinate departmental budgets, fiscal management, and purchases.
  • Coordinate course planning and scheduling with ECME Director and ECME faculty.
  • Coordinate hiring, supervision, training, and evaluation of adjunct faculty.
  • Coordinate practicums and student teaching.
  • Coordinate academic advisement for declared TCU-ECME majors.
  • Coordinate TCU-ECME teacher candidate licensure.
  • Coordinate TCU-ECME program recruitment.
  • Collaborate with NNHS to implement professional development for NNHS staff.
  • Develop an Academic Coaching model and materials.
  • Represent the TCU-ECME program to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assume additional duties as assigned by the ECME Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in a relevant field (e.g., social sciences, nonprofit management, public administration).
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of successful experience in Early Childhood program design and implementation.
  • 1-2 years of experience with advising and coaching college students.
  • Successful experience in developing and managing grants and program budgets.
  • Successful experience working with a variety of public, private, tribal, non-profit and grassroots organizations.
  • Previous experience in program coordination, project management, or related roles.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access)
  • Demonstrates knowledge of regulations, best practices, and ethical standards relevant to Higher Education and Early Childhood State Teacher Education Programs.
  • Knowledge of the Navajo and Zuni Head Start Programs
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Understands University funding systems and processes.
  • Experience with creating data collection through the development of: student applications, survey's, and academic audits of student courses.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to work in a flexible house, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Cultural competence in Navajo, A:shiwi, and/or another indigenous tribe or community.
  • Experience working or living in an indigenous community.

  • Proficiency using databases.

  • Advocate for academic priorities;
  • Be an effective communicator with excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills, and
  • Demonstrate management and organizational skills, including a willingness to explore new paradigms to improve the quality of teaching and efficiency;
  • Knowledge of higher education accreditation processes and issues;
  • Network with other administrators and programs.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of tribal community Universities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit for prolonged periods, walk and stand.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • 80% work will be performed remotely and 20% performed in-person.
  • Work is generally performed in an office setting and online modes.
  • Tight time constraints and multiple demands are common.
  • Evening and/or weekend work may be required. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
