About the Role:

Northside Charter High School is seeking an organized, flexible, and mission-driven Summer Bridge Program Core Teacher [Math/English] to join us in supporting Students and Caregivers at our school. The ideal candidate is fully dedicated to the mission of NCHS and to supporting the success of our incoming students and families. This person will report directly to the Director of Student Experience and Community Engagement and be responsible for implementing academic instruction through culturally responsive teaching and best practices. The core of this position is to cultivate community and engagement amongst incoming students and provide culturally driven instruction to prepare for their ninth grade year.

Position Benefits and Requirements:

  • Compensation/Benefits

    • $7,000 stipend [paid in three installments]

    • Program Dates: July 08, 2024 - August 07, 2024

    • Monday and Wednesday [7:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.]**

    • Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday [7:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.]

    • Daily Lunch Provided

    • Transportation Assistance [monthly metrocard or gas card]


**There will be one or two trips that may require us to return to school later than 3:30 p.m. You will be informed in advance.


  • Required Tasks

    • Mandatory Virtual Lavinia Teacher Training [July 01, 2024 - July 03, 2024]

      • All staff must come into the building on July 01, 2024 to prepare the school for the Summer Bridge Program.

    • Weekly Coaching Meeting with Lavinia Team

    • Implementation of the Lavinia Group Curriculum

    • Daily Prep Time

    • Chaperone students on trip days.

    • Grade, track, and report student performance.


As a teacher for a Summer Bridge Program, your responsibilities are:

  • Curriculum Implementation : Core teachers will be responsible for implementing the Lavinia Group Curriculum with the guidance of Lavinia Group representatives and an on-site academic coach.


  • Instruction: Delivering engaging lessons that promote learning and skill development in relevant subject areas. This may involve teaching in a classroom setting, leading small group activities, or providing one-on-one instruction.


  • Assessment: Evaluating student progress through a pre and post assessment provided by Lavinia Group. Assessment data will be used to make informed decisions around instruction.


  • Individualized Support: Providing personalized support and guidance to students who may require extra assistance to succeed academically. This may include small group instructions or tutoring.

  • Classroom Management: Maintaining a positive and supportive learning environment conducive to student success. Implementing strategies to manage student behavior and promote mutual respect and cooperation among students.


  • Communication: Communicating regularly with students, parents, and other stakeholders to provide updates on student progress, share feedback, and address any concerns or questions.


  • Collaboration: Collaborating with colleagues, administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure the success of the Summer Bridge Program. This may involve participating in team meetings, sharing resources and best practices, and coordinating efforts to meet program goals.


  • Professional Development: Engaging in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in education, instructional strategies, and relevant subject matter.


Candidate Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, English or related educational field (Master's degree preferred).

  • Previous experience teaching at the high school level was preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of Mathematics or English.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to create and maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment.

  • Commitment to professional growth and continuous improvement.
