Seeking law student with strong writing and proofreading skills to join our Legal Affairs & Regulatory Compliance Unit to assist with legal research to support management and various operating units as needed as well as claims and regulatory services with respect to our New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania business, in addition to other insurance related issues as they may arise.


Start Date: June 3, 2024

Duration: 8 to 10 weeks

Hours: Monday-Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide assistance in developing legal and transactional advice and support as directed by the Assistant Vice President and Coverage Counsel.
  • Conduct regulatory and compliance research and support as requested by the Assistant Vice President including, but not limited to, assisting in monitoring legislation, laws and regulations that impact the company’s business in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
  • Research novel questions of law and policy concerning claims as requested by Coverage Counsel.
  • Offer assistance to Coverage Counsel with evaluating claims and issues of coverage, including, but not limited to, coverage disputes and general legal support to the Underwriting, Claims, and Finance Units.
  • Support Assistant Vice President in drafting and proofreading manuscript policy forms and memoranda related to compliance.
  • Analyze coverage for reported claims and incidents under the company’s insurance policies.
  • Give support to Coverage Counsel in drafting coverage memoranda and coverage position letters.
  • Support Assistant Vice President and Coverage Counsel in contract drafting and review.
  • Other duties deemed appropriate by the Assistant Vice President and Coverage Counsel.

Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited law school and have at least completed your 1L year.
  • Must supply references from professors or professional colleagues.
  • Must be able to demonstrate excellent writing and proofreading skills, including supplying writing samples.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in the insurance industry a plus.
  • Must be able to prioritize task assignments.
  • Must have strong critical thinking skills.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Must be detail-oriented and have good organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others in a professional manner.

The actual compensation for this position will be determined by experience and other factors permitted by law.
