Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections of structural steel bolting and welding in accordance with appropriate codes, such as AWS D1.1, D1.3, AISC Manual of Steel Construction, etc.
  • Perform inspections of pipe and miscellaneous welding.
  • Proctor/observe welder qualification tests.
  • Prepare reports of inspections and tests.
  • Assist with other work, such as floor profile measurement, pacometer (R-meter) location of reinforcing steel, concrete imaging radar location of reinforcing steel and various others.

Qualifications

  • Current Certified Welding Inspector and/or ICC Bolting, Welding, and Structural Steel Inspector certificates.
  • Ability to read and interpret project drawings and codes.
  • Familiarity with other welding codes, such as ASME and API codes.
  • Non-destructive testing experience and qualification preferred. Methods to look for are magnetic particle, ultrasonic, and dye penetrant.
  • Articulated Lift operators card/certificate preferred.
  • Willingness to learn and perform work outside this description if needs arise (making cylinders or prisms, observing post-tensioning operations, water spray testing, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications (Individual qualifications and/or combinations can be evaluated on a case by case basis)

  • CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) certification from the American Welding Society.
  • ASNT (American Society for Non-destructive Testing) Level II ACCP (ASNT Central Certification Program) technician in Magnetic Particle (MT), Dye Penetrant (PT), and/or Ultrasonic Testing (UT).
  • ICC (International Code Council) Structural Steel and Bolting certification
  • ICC Structural Steel and Welding certification
  • Experience with reinforcing steel inspection, post-tensioned concrete inspection and reporting, or other related experience is also a plus, but not required.
