Title: Associate R&D Transfer Engineer
Location: Lake Zurich, IL (Onsite Position)
Some relocation assistance may be available

Position Summary:

The Associate R&D Transfer Engineer position performs equipment and process transfer from product development to production as well as improvements in equipment, tooling, and processes for ongoing production in support of the Development department's objectives to provide goods and services that meet customer’s requirements for quality, quantity, and timeliness. The position will have a mixture of direct support of customers and sustaining engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support R&D efforts with assembly and engineering during the regulatory phase
  • Work with R&D in transferring projects to manufacturing
  • Support the transfer of products into production following transfer checklist
  • Coordinate production support of transfer builds including materials and assembly labor
  • Support production lines during transfer builds
  • Development of manufacturing processes for acceptable throughput and yield to achieve cost targets
  • Train assemblers on assembly procedures during the transfer phase and support process changes that originate beyond transfer
  • Train production personnel in equipment and line start setups
  • Communicate with vendors to support production and address issues
  • Support process validation including master validation plans, IQ, OQ, PQ, gauge R&R, and software validation
  • Perform IQ, OQ, and PQ associated with assigned projects
  • Coordination of process qualification and operational qualification of processes used in manufacturing products
  • Coordination of design of custom equipment and fixtures to meet cost and throughput targets of manufactured products
  • Acquisition, setup, and installation qualification of new equipment, including creation of PM procedure as necessary
  • Support equipment maintenance, as appropriate per skills and knowledge, and support or perform equipment re-entry to production
  • Engage and handoff activities to production
  • Review of safety issues with equipment and processes and implementation of procedures and equipment modifications
  • Production line layout
  • Annual risk analysis and DMR updates

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering is required
  • Technical skills must include disposable design and development background, materials knowledge, and prototyping
  • Project management experience is highly preferred to plan and conduct complex development projects
  • 0-2 years of experience with sustaining and process engineering, contract manufacturing preferred
  • ISO experience, cGMP, and ISO 13485 preferred

  • High energy level, attention to detail, and a sense of urgency
  • Computer skills including MS Office, Solidworks, or alternative CAD program
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques
  • Skills with statistics, preferably experience with DOEs, Minitab
  • Strong customer interaction skills
