A Day in the Life
  • Design feedback control algorithms in MATLAB/Simulink using classical PID control laws and serve as an independent reviewer of MATLAB/Simulink models to ensure that all software meets quality standards.

  • Research advanced control methods and their potential to enhance closed-loop system performance.

  • Update and tune existing software implementations to support released products.

  • Perform reduced-order modeling of systems and subsystems to enable efficient exploration of the controller design space.

  • Integrate and test new controller designs on hardware at different maturity levels, from prototype to released hardware.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of verification methods.

  • Collaborate with the broader software organization, systems engineering, and validation groups, and prepare for and participate in design reviews.

  • Define and review software requirements, and document or contribute to the documentation of the software, including architecture and design details, unit testing, anomaly tracking, and reports.

Must Haves

  • A Bachelor's Degree with 7 years of relevant work experience, or an advanced degree with 5 years of relevant work experience.

  • Proficiency in using modeling and simulation software, with MATLAB/Simulink strongly preferred.

  • Familiarity with multi-body kinematics and dynamics.

  • Experience in designing and implementing position, velocity, and torque feedback controllers.

  • Knowledge of discrete signal processing methods and algorithms, with experience in reduced-order modeling of mechatronic systems.

  • Understanding of techniques used for real-time estimation of uncertain parameters.

  • Experience in implementing advanced control algorithms, such as optimization-based control methods.

  • Fluency in English.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience with real-time software development on microprocessor-based systems and software development in a Linux environment.

  • Expertise in integrating mechanical and electrical hardware and software, particularly in an embedded systems context.

  • Experience with the medical product development process, including regulatory processes, safety considerations, and hands-on experience with medical or surgical devices and instruments.

  • Experience working in a large company with matrix structures and collaborating with cross-functional teams within an international environment.

  • Experience in prototype-level C++ coding.

  • Experience in open-ended robotics research projects.
