Nursery Assistant
Job Description


Status: Part-Time (Exempt)
REPORTS TO: Nursery Coordinator
SALARY REVIEW: Annually by the Executive Team

POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Word of Peace is seeking a Nursery Assistant to join their innovating and growing Children, Youth and Family Ministry Team. This person will provide a safe, nurturing, and faith driven environment for children during worship services and designated events that fulfills the Word of Peace core values.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES including but not limited to

Administration
  • Provides excellent and compassionate childcare during nursery hours, including but not limited to changing diapers, assisting with bathroom needs, feeding, rocking, comforting, and playing with children utilizing age-appropriate toys, books, music, and videos.
  • Engage children in age-appropriate play. Training will be provided before starting and ongoing.
  • Collects and maintains child information sheets, photo permission forms, and security photos.
  • Cleans and disinfects toys, equipment, and furnishings and maintains the order of the nursery rooms.
  • Evaluate equipment and remove unsafe, worn, or broken items as needed.
  • Communicate with the Nursery Coordinator regarding equipment and supply needs, schedules, security, and policies weekly.
  • Communicate and enforce nursery policies and procedures with parents/guardians.
  • Provides direction and supervision of Confirmation student volunteers by keeping them engaged with children in creative play and providing compassionate care.
  • Authorizes Confirmation student service hour forms upon completion of positive performance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous childcare experience
  • Positive, nurturing, and hospitable attitude
  • Understands infant, toddler, and preschool development and physical needs of children
  • Well-organized, self-directed, and nurturing
  • Good communication skills
  • Supports Word of Peace Lutheran Church's vision statement and core values
  • Professional, positive, and effective working relationships with youth, staff, and parents
  • Ability to work during Sunday and Monday worship services and other designated events rotating with additional staff
    • Sunday shift 8 am until 12:15 pm (ending at 11 am in the summer)
    • Monday nights 6 pm until 7:45 pm
  • Ability to be flexible with hours, including working evenings and holidays, but not limited to Christmas and Easter with multiple worship services
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
  • Successfully pass a background check
  • Supports the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) Theology
