Hours: 8am to 5pm, Monday thru Friday, Overtime as needed

Starting Pay: $17.00/hr

Job Description:

The Yard Driver is responsible for the safe efficient movement of trailers within the yard and between the shop or warehouse. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring that the facility’s transportation operations run smoothly, with trailers and containers positioned correctly to facilitate loading and unloading. The yard Driver must adhere to all safety protocols.

Essential Functions:

Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.

  • Safely move trailers within the yard or to the designated parking spots as required.
  • Perform routine pre- and post -trip inspections on tractors and trailers to ensure they are in safe operating condition.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to yard traffic regulations.
  • Report any mechanical issues or safety concerns with the equipment to the Heavy Equipment Mechanics or supervisor immediately.
  • Keep the yard clean and organized by helping with general cleaning around all facilities.
  • Potentially train as backup tower operator.

Experience/Skills:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience driving semi’s, CDL preferred not required.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.

Work environment:

  • This position requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance.
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on radio.

Required Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
