REPORTS TO: Director of Operations FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
SCHEDULE: 8am-5pm with some early/late shifts and occasional weekends
POSITION SUMMARY: The Transporter will be responsible for following the schedule and transporting clients and/or staff to and from various appointments, classes, meetings and job assignments.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Pick up clients at scheduled locations and times and transport to appropriate destinations in a punctual and timely manner
- Drive safely in accordance with traffic laws and posted speed limits while accounting for weather conditions
- Travel by routes specified by patient transportation manager or an approved GPS system
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance, including refueling, cleaning windshield or adding oil, and report mechanical problems to the Director of Operations or other staff as soon as possible
- Establish and maintain communication with clients and coworkers to improve quality of service and customer satisfaction
- Respect and protect client and agency confidentiality by keeping client and/or company information private
- Follow all protocols and procedures to ensure safe delivery of clients, their possessions, facility supplies, and medications as needed
- Respond in conversation with clients in order to provide support and feedback during times of emotional distress or hardship
- Resolve conflicts between clients and/or staff while transporting
- Assist at assigned location or house as directed in between scheduled client transports.
- Complete a written Critical Incident Report Form as needed
BACKGROUND/ EDUCATION:
- Must be able to read basic instructions/directions and follow designated routes
- Must be able to write at a six (6) grade level to complete critical incident reports when needed
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:
- Current/valid driver’s license
- Must meet insurance provider’s guidelines for insurability
- Effective communication skills
- Effective organization and time management skills
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Knowledge and ability to follow traffic laws
- Ability to use approved GPS navigation technology or written directions
- Accountability and time-management skills
- Conflict resolution skills
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
Must have the physical ability to enter and exit a vehicle multiple times per work shift and be able to sit in and drive various types of vehicles for extended travel. Must be able to sit, stand, bend, reach overhead and lift up to 25 pounds; travel and/or attend meetings during and after normal work hours. Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. May involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Requires up to 6/7 hours of sitting and no more than 2 hours of standing or walking in an 8-hour workday. No significant stooping is required.
Environmental Conditions:
The employee will spend most of the day in a vehicle, driving in moderate to heavy traffic. Travel is required during all weather conditions including rain, snow, ice or other conditions which may impair travel safety. Management will determine if conditions warrant cancellation of transportation services.
Mental Demands:
There are a number of daily deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant levels of stress to some individuals. The position must deal with clients and staff daily on a variety of issues.
WORK EXPECTATIONS:
- Minimum of 40 hours per week.
- Must be able to work well with other staff and clients.
- Travel required to transport clients to various appointments or to meetings at other Revive locations.
