Gloster Forest Products, LLC (GFP) is building a state-of-the-art lumber mill in Gloster, Mississippi.

The new mill will require over 1 million tons of timber annually to produce about 250 million board feet. The facility will be located on 65 acres (about the area of a large shopping mall) and represents a corporate investment of over $200 million, creating 131 jobs and supporting an additional 200 indirect jobs when operating at full capacity.

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Log Crane Operator to join our team. As a Log Crane Operator, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating a log crane to load, unload, and move logs within a mill environment. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth flow of operations and contributing to the overall productivity and safety of the logging operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate a log crane to load and unload logs from trucks, trailers, and storage areas.
  • Safely maneuver the log crane to transport logs and timber products within the worksite or designated areas.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines while operating the log crane, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance checks on the log crane to ensure its safe and efficient operation.
  • Communicate effectively with other team members and supervisors to coordinate work activities and ensure the timely completion of tasks.
  • Monitor and comply with weight limits and load restrictions to prevent accidents or damage to equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily operations, including the number and types of logs moved, work hours, and any maintenance or repair issues.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or incidents to the supervisor immediately.
  • Follow all applicable regulations and procedures related to log handling, including environmental regulations and forestry practices.
  • Continuously improve skills and knowledge related to log crane operation through training and professional development opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Log Crane Operator or similar role within the logging or forestry industry.
  • Valid crane operator certification or license, where applicable.
  • In-depth knowledge of log handling techniques, equipment, and safety procedures.
  • Proficient in operating different types of log cranes and related attachments.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Physical stamina and ability to work in various weather conditions and challenging terrains.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues and perform minor repairs or adjustments.
  • Willingness to adhere to all safety regulations and company policies.
