Job Title: RN Supervisor/Educator Program: Nursing

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB Working directly under the leadership of the Vice President of Medical Services, the Nurse Supervisor/Educator will provide supervision and direction to designated agency nursing staff in order to ensure effective quality services for individuals receiving agency services. They will also be providing training and education to staff
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
SUPERVISOR
- In the absence of the Director of Nursing will provide support, oversight and management of RN’s and LPN’s
EDUCATOR
- Teach Maintaining Health that provides an overview of diabetes, chronic and acute illness, plan of nursing services, seizure care and treatment, vital signs, informed consent, skin breakdown prevention, personal care and appropriate ways to clean a variety of body areas, how to address incontinence issues, menses care, catheter care, oral hygiene/dental health, MIPS (medical immobilization protective stabilization), Safe Patient Handling, how to complete and document a body check as well as information on aging.
- Provide 32-36 hour Medication Administration Training to all new employees as well as returning employees as needed.
- Teach Nursing Triage during new employee orientation.
- Assist in tracking, documentation, and completion of medication certification records for all employees.
REGISTERED NURSE
- Tracks and documents all medical appointments; illness or accident; current medication; medication changes; current diet (weight loss and gain) and all charts required by the individual’s nursing care.
- Completes required documentation (paper and/or electronic) in a timely, accurate fashion and as per compliance regulations.
- Ensures all required documentation is maintained in records in the prescribed manner.
- Maintains a record of dates when required in-service sessions for residential/day program staff/ were conducted.
- Completes and submits occurrence forms and incident reports in a timely, accurate fashion and as per agency policy and State regulations; counsel or re-train staff as needed regarding reporting procedures.
- Spot checks medication count to ensure that the records for narcotics control and needle/syringe supply are accurate.
- Ensures supplies of medication and first aid materials are adequate and not expired, that medication is stored and disposed of according to agency policy. Complete monthly medication storage.
- Ensures that all physician appointments and follow ups are scheduled as ordered.
- Reviews incoming physician summaries for instructions, medication changes and treatment orders and implement all changes.
- Ensures that all emergency room/hospital discharge instructions are followed up and documented.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- RN degree from an accredited School of Nursing or
- New York State License
- 3 years’ experience with the IDD population preferred
SKILLS
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Math: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
Reasoning: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- New York State Registered Nursing license or Nurse Practitioner License
- The employee is required to successfully complete required trainings.
- Valid NYS driver license with driving record that meets the insurer’s standards is required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee in order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. The employee must be able to lift up to 50lbs.

All staff must pass all NYS Justice Center Background Check Requirements, and Physical. In addition, the employee has a duty to report any suspected violations of the law (including any motor vehicle infractions) to the Human Resources Director.
