DLR Group has openings for a Design Research Intern. Join our Design Research team to work on a project exploring the intersection of preservation narratives and pre-white settlement history in the Pacific Northwest.

This role will be an important part of our integrated design process and will engage in a unique seasonal position providing exposure to research in professional practice at an AEIP firm.

Position Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate-level program with a focus on design disciplines, research methodologies, social science, design research, statistics, or data science; unique programs encouraged to apply

  • Strong GPA and Student or Community Organization Involvement

  • Experience reading and summarizing peer-reviewed research articles, individually or as part of a literature review

  • Exposure to or direct experience with core quantitative and qualitative research methodologies including surveys, focus groups, interviews, or observation

  • Awareness of current Human Subjects Research practices (HSR training certification from your school is a plus, but not required)

Position Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with integrated design team members on personal research or design projects

  • Develop a personal research project related to historic preservation practices and pre-colonial historical research with a deliverable intended for use by non-researchers in a variety of design disciplines

  • Participate in and gain an understanding of mixed methods research in the context of a working design firm and an integrated design practice

  • Support research projects using quantitative or qualitative methods for data gathering and analysis

  • Create written, visual, or video content to communicate research findings

  • Option to improve technical skills with REVIT/AutoCAD and Sketch-up

Our Benefits for a Seasonal Internship at DLR Group include PTO, Holidays, and 401K. Compensation considerations are based on location, experience, and skills. The potential pay range for this role is $21.00 - $25.00 per hour.
