Purpose of This Job:

The purpose of this job is to keep all departmental equipment and machines, mechanical equipment, refrigeration equipment, or the structure of an establishment in repair. Duties may involve insulating; welding; machining; carpentry; repairing electrical or mechanical equipment; installing, aligning, and balancing new equipment; and repairing, heavy cleaning and painting buildings, floors, or stairs.

Essential Functions of the Job:

1. Repair or replace defective equipment parts, using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment.

2. Perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure that equipment and machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate. Including, but not limited to: replacing lights/bulbs, shelving repair, repair of wear and tear, touch up painting, repair of cracks/scrapes/scratches, insulation installation, removal or repair.

3. Inspect drives, motors, and belts; check fluid levels, switches, blades, replace filters, or perform other maintenance actions; follow checklists.

4. Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.

5. Assemble, install, or repair wiring, electrical and electronic components, pipe systems and plumbing, machinery, and equipment.

6. Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blue prints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.

7. Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions. Machinery to include, but not limited to: slicers, meat grinders, shrink wrap, floor scrubbers, etc.

8. Inspect, test, and repair all refrigeration units.

9. Document all preventative maintenance on all refrigeration units.

10. Create and maintain an equipment log for each individual location with documentation of purchase, model number, serial number and all associated maintenance.

11. Maintain a preventative maintenance schedule of all equipment and machinery with documented completion.

12. Record type and cost of maintenance or repair work.

13. Perform heavy cleaning of establishments with record keeping of cleaning and sanitation performed.

Equipment used in the Job:

All mechanical hand tools including air and electric, torch, cutting tools. Basic personal computer skills.

Educational Requirements:

Minimum of a high school diploma.

Number of years Experience:

Minimum of one year of experience with two preferred; higher education can be substituted for experience.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to do basic math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and percentages.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, directions.

Ability to follow written and verbal directions.

Ability to talk to others (internal customers/coworkers) to convey information effectively and professionally.

Must be able to read and comprehend SDS; with ability to comprehend and react to potential hazards.

Typical Physical and Mental demands of the Job:

Concentration, attentiveness, independent judgment and discretion, manage multiple tasks, read and comprehend instructions and work orders. Must be able to see, hear, bend, stoop and reach. Must be able to lift 100 pounds unassisted. Must be able to grasp and use hand tools, and manual power-driven mechanical tools without assistance.

Work Environment:

Exposed to all elements of the weather, working outside in parking lots, and on vehicles/equipment outside in all seasons. Work in an open area or in close quarters with equipment, solvents, cleaners, and power tools.

Other Considerations:

Must be able to work effectively in a team environment and interact professionally with internal and external customers. Basic knowledge of mechanics, welding, and vehicle maintenance (including diesel) is a plus. Must have current driver’s license and be able to drive the company vehicle.
