Job Summary:


As a wastewater and hazardous material technician, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining wastewater treatment systems of the site as well as managing the storage and disposal of environmentally hazardous substances to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards. Your duties will include conducting routine inspections, performing tests, troubleshooting equipment, and implementing corrective actions to optimize system performance.


Responsibilities:


1. Operate and monitor wastewater treatment equipment, including pumps, valves, filters, and chemical feed systems.
2. Conduct routine inspections of treatment processes to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and standards.
3. Conduct routine inspections of environmentally hazardous substances storage to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and standards.
4. Perform water quality tests using various analytical instruments and methods, such as pH meters, turbidity meters, and spectrophotometers.
5. Collect samples of wastewater and sludge for analysis and laboratory testing.
6. Maintain accurate records of operational data, test results, and maintenance activities.
7. Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and perform corrective maintenance as needed to minimize downtime.
8. Calibrate and maintain instrumentation and equipment to ensure accurate measurements and reliable operation.
9. Assist in the development and implementation of preventive maintenance programs to prolong equipment life and prevent failures.
10. Participate in safety training programs and adhere to safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
11. Coordinate with other departments, regulatory agencies, and contractors as needed to support wastewater treatment operations and environmental hazardous substances disposal.


Qualifications:


1. High school diploma or equivalent; certification in wastewater treatment plant operation is required.
2. Prior experience in operating and maintaining wastewater treatment systems is desirable.
3. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
4. Knowledge of wastewater treatment principles, processes, and equipment.
5. Familiarity with environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
7. Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
8. Physical ability to lift heavy equipment and perform manual labor as required.
9. Willingness to work outdoors and in potentially hazardous conditions.
10. Valid driver's license and clean driving record may be required.
