Baltimore, United States Global Refuge Full time
Job DescriptionJob Description

If you are passionate about transforming communities with a mission-driven organization, then we have the opportunity for you

Reporting to a Senior Program Officer for Family Reunification as their field instructor, the HS/PRS Intern will also potentially be assigned a task instructor who may be any eligible member of the HS/PRS leadership team. The field instructor will be responsible for integrating practice and theory, whereas the task instructor will be responsible for daily supervision and guidance. The HS/PRS intern will generally assist members of the HS/PRS leadership team in tasks related to the oversight and management of the program. As such this internship is best suited for individuals seeking a Macro internship experience.

Note: The internship can potentially focus on micro activities for the HS/PRS intern if so desired, but a pre-employment discussion should be had to discuss if this can be reasonably obtained for the intern through this placement. This is a paid internship.

Children released from ORR care to sponsors typically do not need in-home services as a part of their reunification process. When children are identified as having special needs or other barriers to the reunification process are identified, home studies and post-release services are recommended to ensure that the minor and sponsor can live with one another safely and that the placement is stable. Global Refuge maintains a national network of case managers tasked with inspecting home environments, informing release decisions, and connecting families to community resources. These case managers are responsible for ensuring that children are safe and living in suitable homes, as well as actively promoting family reunification. Global Refuge has provided home study and post-release services since 2006. Since that time, the program and network have gradually grown from being one that was focused on headquarters-based staff operating in a limited local capacity, to one that is nationally focused with an emphasis on partners who can serve clients with local expertise. Since its beginning, the program has served 10,523 minors through both programs.

Global Refuge, formerly known as Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS), is a nonprofit serving newcomers seeking safety, support, and a share in the American dream.
