Our client is a small, boutique law firm in Contra Costa County/California specializing in trust and estate planning for persons with disabilities and their families with a heavy emphasis on the establishment and management of both self-settled and 3rd party supplemental needs trusts.

The law firm looking for a full-time Associate Attorney to join the team in their Pacheco (Martinez) office, with flexible work hours available. The ideal candidate is someone with a commitment to serving persons with disabilities and their families, who has some familiarity with public benefits for persons with disabilities, and who is looking for a long-term position in a rewarding area of the law.

Requirements - Associate Attorney

  • Be an active member of the State Bar of California with no record of discipline.
  • Experience in probate, estate planning and/or conservatorships strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience in issues related to community services for persons with disabilities preferred.
  • Familiarity and competence with legal case management systems (Clio) and general office applications (Word, Excel, Adobe, Outlook).
  • Fluency is Spanish would be a plus, but is not required.

Responsibilities - Associate Attorney

  • Drafting estate planning documents including revocable living trust, supplemental needs trusts, Wills, Advance Health Care Directives, Durable Powers of Attorney, Trust Transfer Deeds.
  • Drafting court documents including Petitions, support Declarations, Notices and proposed Orders.
  • Work with and supervise our paralegal team with the preparation and submission of routine court documents and filings, trust accounting materials, service of process, etc.
  • Court appearances as needed.
  • Handle client meetings and correspond, communicate and work directly with clients to respond to their questions, requests, and to schedule appointments.

  • Possess excellent research, writing and analytical skills.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and a desire and ability to be an integral member of a team.
  • Must be dependable and a self-starter who can work well under minimal supervision.
  • Have exemplary organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to set priorities while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be great at connecting with others and able to easily converse with clients and make them feel welcome, both in person and by phone.
