Fire Alarm Designer

We seek a motivated, resilient Fire Alarm Designer with a proactive approach and leadership mindset that can research and comprehend local, state, and national fire code and design systems that satisfy the criteria for various building occupation ratings.  In addition to designing fire alarms, a basic understanding of other low voltage systems will be required.  Although fire will be the focus, this position will also include occasionally designing and / or estimating security, surveillance, access control and other low voltage systems.

What You Will Do | Responsibilities:

  • Design fire systems while following required codes.
  • Look for ways to value engineer projects as necessary while maintaining code compliance.
  • Create detailed take offs from plans and drawings.
  • Create CAD drawings and submittal packages for AHJs
  • Produce shop drawings and as built drawings
  • Perform site surveys and walk projects with customers and sales team members.
  • Coordinate resources and prepare proposals complete with bill of materials, labor, subcontract, and other charges as needed.
  • Create detailed project descriptions, scope of work, as well as information needed for an accurate and detailed job file.
  • Keep informed of new products and developments.
  • Attend in-house training sessions and manufacturers’ training as assigned and/or required.
  • Grow and maintain NFPA 72 code knowledge.

What We Are Looking For:

Required:

  • Must have a high level of knowledge and hands on experience with design and code compliance of fire systems and other low voltage systems.
  • Minimum of two years fire alarm design experience.
  • Must have experience with CAD and other specialized design software.
  • Revit experience preferred.
  • Great leadership and organizational skills.
  • Highly proficient in computer skills.
  • Must be able to read requests for proposals, and floor plans and provide proposals accordingly.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work well under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Strong organizational ability and time management skills.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Represent the company in a professional, credible manner in speech, written communication, and appearance.

Preferred:

  • 10 years of experience in the fire life-safety, security, and low voltage industry.
  • NICET II or greater certification.
