Overview

Applies engineering principles to design, develop, and modify mechanical products.

Essential Job Duties

  • Provide concept designs for new products.
  • Design and create complete drawing packages for new products on CAD.
  • Obtain components and produce draft cost estimates for designs.
  • Perform development testing and evaluation of designs in preparation for production and regulatory submittals.
  • Provide engineering support for production issues covering manufacture, quality, and testing.
  • Conceptualize, define, design, build, and test new products.
  • Review specifications and other data to develop mechanical layouts.
  • Meet and collaborate with internal contacts to understand the needs and requirements for a new and existing product or mechanical designs.
  • Use software to plan and develop simulations, including testing and revising product designs.
  • Apply knowledge of engineering principles to design products.
  • May be involved in fabrication, or provide support and consultation for installation, and/or repair of products.

Required Qualifications - Required qualifications to effectively perform the job. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. (Additional requirements may be designated by position.)

  • This position requires an associate's degree in mechanical or civil engineering, a bachelor's degree in mechanical or civil engineering is preferred.
  • Five years of directly related experience is preferred.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products - specifically Excel, and Outlook.
  • Critical thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must have a basic understanding of engineering calculations, understanding dimensioning, tolerances, and other standard engineering practices.
  • Must be able to read and understand engineering drawings, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Must be able to produce drawings in 2D and 3D in AutoCAD Inventor.

Work Environment - Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • General office conditions. Exposed to moderate noise levels.
  • When in the manufacturing area exposed to general factory conditions, may be exposed to high noise levels.

  • Required to use close vision and be able to focus.
  • Regularly required to talk and hear; frequently required to sit, stand and bend at the knee and waist, and walk.
  • Must be able to have repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement to type and work on computer.
  • Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to work on computer, telephone, and related office equipment.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as required in the manufacturing areas.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
