Caprock Academy follows the Core Knowledge© curriculum in grades K–8. This curriculum encompasses language arts, mathematics, science, history, geography, fine arts, and physical education. The curriculum is characterized by content-rich instruction, cumulative knowledge, content-specific lessons, and coherent sequencing. The School Nurse shall report and is accountable to the Head of School. As a person integral to Caprock Academy’s support team, the School Nurse will maintain the integrity of, advocate for, and facilitate the implementation of the Academy’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values always.


FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Hourly, Non-Exempt

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: part-time

WORK HOURS: 5 hours per week

PAY RANGE:

REPORTS TO: Head of School


Essential Duties:

  • Identify students with health needs requiring accommodation in the school setting;
  • Interpret the student health component for special education assessments;
  • Interpret the student health component for 504 Accommodation Plans;
  • Develop Individual Health Services Plans for students who have health care needs during the school day;
  • Train, delegate and supervise Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) and other school staff trained to carry out designated health related procedures;
  • Conduct student vision and hearing screenings;
  • Supervise student immunization compliance;
  • Promote confidentiality of health information;
  • Coordinate and manage for the administration of medications and health related treatments
  • Provide information and education to school staff as needed as related to students who have health needs, infectious diseases, and nuisance infestation;
  • Actively participate in school provision of safe school environment for students and staff;
  • Institute appropriate disease control measures and practical application of standard precautions;
  • Provide health-related education to staff in individual, small group, and/or large group setting;
  • Promote a safe and drug free school environment.
  • Maximize the quantity of in class time by reducing the incidence of health related absenteeism


The school nurse functions independently under state and agency guidelines and policies without onsite supervision. Work is self-directed and clinically autonomous. Limited supervision may be exercised over volunteers and/or unlicensed personnel. To accomplish these responsibilities, the school nurse serves in a variety of roles including program manager/coordinator, case manager/direct care provider, collaborator/advocate, educator, and counselor for the entire school.


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution* OR three (3) or more years of licensed, practical experiences as an RN with school-aged children
  • Colorado Dora license for Registered Nurse
  • Successful completion of the field experiences and a supervised practicum as prescribed by the preparing institution, including experiences with school-age children in a community health/public health or school setting
  • CCNE- and ACEN-accredited programs are also accepted.
  • Practical experiences as an RN with school-aged children, including experiences with school-age children in a community health/public health or school setting
  • Experience in working with students of varying ages, skill levels, and circumstances
  • Valid RN issued by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies or an RN in a state that is participating in the nurse licensing compact agreement
  • A consensus-building, participatory management style
