Types of procedures required.Prepares tissue for processing and examination following the direction and supervision of the pathologist and laboratory lead pathology technician Assist in obtaining biological samples Pick-up specimens in other departmentsHistological procedures: • Embedding tissue • Embedding non-GYN cell blocks • Performing microtomy • H E stain • Manual coverslippingNon-GYN cytology processing. Maintains lab equipment. Ability to troubleshoot equipment, microtomy artifacts, and staining defect issues. Ensures all lab safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met. Properly handles various chemicals according to MSDS standards. Disinfects work area and stocks supplies. Files blocks, slides, specimens and paperwork as necessary. Maintain a positive, professional demeanor with all medical professionals and patients at all times. Recognize responsibilities of other laboratory and health care personnel and interact with respect for their jobs and patient care.May be required to interact with all of client population. Answers phone calls and questions in a professional manner. Adhere to established internal standards and procedures abstracted from Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA). Will work with self-discipline and good judgment while following established standards of practice rendering the adhereance to departmental policies and procedures.Equipment utilized in the unit/dept.Leica ASP 300s enclosed tissue processor. AP Beaker (Epic) computer systemRequired skills and minimum years of experience.Minimum of 1 year experience in surgical anatomic pathology including the processing of a wide varitety of specimen types. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Efficient time management. Ability to work in a fast-past working environment.
