Job Summary
Responsible for the success of the Health and Nutrition service components of the Head Start programs by ensuring all enrolled participants are physically healthy, receiving needed services for chronic conditions and are provided with nutritious meals. Supports all direct service staff in identifying, referring, and assisting families to receive the health and nutrition benefits necessary for continued growth. Provide the support necessary to ensure all direct service staff follows practices that provide all children, families, and staff with a safe environment that promotes wellness.
It is critical that Health Nutrition Administrator employs coaching and mentoring skills, while not in a supervisory role, to ensure success and continuous professional growth of all direct service staff. This includes open and honest communication with center managers and staff while celebrating successes and planning for performance improvements.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a health related field
Valid Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience securing and individualizing services for children with disabilities
Familiarity with training, as is knowledge of Performance Standards related to all aspects of the Head Start program
Essential responsibilities:
- Implements and monitors the Health component of the Head Start/Early Head Start Program.
- Plans policies, procedures, and develops monitoring tools and resources as part of the Health/Nutrition Team for the Health and Nutrition components of the Head Start/Early Head Start Program Address and resolve payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries regarding payroll matters.
- Oversees the Nutrition Specialist and Health Administrative Assistant.
- Works with the Family Services Team Leader to plan and facilitate the Health/Mental Health Services Advisory Committee to report the status of component areas and ask for inputs in regards to Health, Mental Health and Nutrition activities.
- Provides the tools, training, and technical assistance as needed for direct line staff to realize continuous improvement in working with children and families
- Monitors that appropriate health screenings, follow-ups, and referrals are completed for each child within designated time frames.
- Monitors and analyzes PIR Health information and other agency reports ensuring current and accurate entry, ensuring all programmatic goals are being met, and immediately addressing and reporting any areas of concern
- Supports and promotes the current curriculums (education, social-emotional, prenatal, and parenting) used by the program.
SAFETY:
This position requires the employee to maintain attention to safety at all times. Compliance with all safety policies is a must. Individuals will be held accountable for any and all breeches of safety they are involved in.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
The Head Start program serves both active and physically challenged preschoolers.
This position may require lifting/carrying up to 40 lbs., walking, climbing, kneeling, crawling, bending/stooping, sitting, standing, pushing/pulling, driving, and prolonged visual concentration. Must be able to independently travel to centers +/- 65 miles from his/her home-base worksite. Kitchen tools or equipment may be used. Work will be performed inside mostly, but some outside work may be required. Work environment in kitchens and centers is consistently noisy and buys.
